The French language and the teachers who are a part of it inspired me throughout my high school career. Without the inclusion of this language on the high school syllabus, I could not be studying French for my degree at university. Furthermore, taking French as my language inspired me to go to university in Europe, and is allowing me to live in France for my continued education in 2017. I would not be the person I am if I had not taken French in high school. To rob others of this same experience is unfair.

This is my seventh year in French, and I could not be happier in it. The teachers are phenomenal, and we discuss real issues that concern us as students and as human beings in general. Learning another language is an unequivocal asset and to deprive students thereof would be nothing short of irresponsible as a school district. The beauty of John Jay is our number and diversity of classes, something the district prides itself on, and to force students into a Spanish track -- while that may be satisfying to some -- will only frustrate others, myself included. Keep French in John Jay.

Of course John Jay is probably adding another ****ing tennis court instead of focusing on what's really important... varsity sports won't get you far - lots of great athletes now have careers selling nutrition shakes in faulty pyramid schemes.

I absolutley loved taking french at John Jay and was devastated because it was not offered at my new school. Let's keep this program going and show the younger generation how amazing learning a language can really be.

This is absurd... Kids need to learn useful things. Not everything is about problem sets and formulas. The ability to cross borders and relate to other human beings is a crucial skill to the betterment of our society.

The fact that the school district is thinking about cutting any language is atrocious and not progressive. If anything they should be adding languages.

This is the first I have heard of this and I hope it is springing from an unfounded rumor, but in the meantime I am happy to add my support. The study of languages is incredibly important. French is a beautiful and alive language. KLSD should be adding to their language programs not subtracting.

I truly hope this is not true! John Jay has a phenomenal French program and should be a model for its mediocre Spanish program. Because of the excellent teachers and opportunities available to my son at the school, he decided to minor in French at the university level and study in Brussels Belgium during his junior year of college. To eliminate this programis unconscionable.

French is important. Do not take away the opportunity for students to learn one of the most beautiful, and useful languages in the world. I started taking French in 7th grade up until senior year and studied abroad in Paris my junior year in college. Had I not learned the language prior to college, I would have struggled and I wouldn't have met even 1/3rd of the people I did while I was there. People who have since helped me get jobs, sat at my Thanksgiving dinner table, and showed me their culture because I was willing to learn about it, because I could communicate with them in their language. People in Europe are all fluent in at least 2 different languages, many know 3 or more. John Jay education will be taking away the ability for students to acquire a new language that will not only help with vocabulary, but will help with writing, learning poetry, learning history - it would be a shame to see French dissipate from John Jay. Don't do that. It's stupid. Vive la France!!!

I minored in French at college and had to opportunity to spend 4 months abroad in Paris, taking classes taught by renowned Professors from the Sorbonne and interning at a French Company. None of this would have been possible without the French program at John Jay. To think of taking away such an important language is unthinkable for any school, let alone the taxes we pay to keep our school system in such high rankings. Not to mention that Mme. Kutscher (that's the abbreviation for Madame- something I wouldn't know if it were not for french) was such an incredible teacher and had a great influence on me throughout high school. French shaped a large part of who I am and every student at JJ should have that opportunity. I can't believe the people who had this idea even have remote access to power.

As a French major, I can say fully that French is a very important language, it after english is one of the official language of the most countries, I firmly believe that we have a great opportunity at John jay and that to take it away from students would be a tragedy, the French language is alive and well in many places in the us, from Maine to lousiana where there are large populations of francophones, it's a part new york life as well. It's one of the 2 official languages of the UN, as well as mounts the Olympics, it's also invaluable in legal studies. I fully support the teaching of french in our district.

My love of the French language would never have grown without the language program at John Jay. Without a doubt, I owe much of this passion to the dedication of French teachers at John Jay. The knowledge I learned in French class stayed with me and continued to grow past graduation, which is not something I could say for every subject I studied in high school.
