Being a french student in middle school, high school, and college, I can say that the majority of students I've talked to who have taken French or still do absolutely love it. I think french teachers and professors alike are extremely passionate, caring, and enthusiastic about the language which helps us learn and be passionate about it as well. I did the french exchange program in high school and it's an experience I will never forget-I still speak with my french correspondent who is to this day one of my best friends, and I plan to study abroad in France in 2017. This program has made such a profound impact on my life and to get rid of it would be devastating.

It would be short sighted not to offer French at a quality school such as JJHS.
There are multiple reasons why it is important to keep French in the curriculum....too many to mention here;and most quite obvious.
In fact the school should offer more languages such as Italian and Mandarin!

French at John Jay is the reason why I spent a semester in Cannes, France and the reason why I am a french minor. It would be a shame to get rid of the french program, especially because of the amazing Madame Kutscher!

French has taught me more about myself and more culture than any other program in the school could've offered me. I've had the opportunity to live with a frenchc family in the prettiest part of France, the ability to understand and see how french culture has spread through the world by visiting Quèbec in Canada, and am very excited to be able to visit Montreal next year. Cutting the French program not only doesn't make sense but also limits the ability of John Jay students to experience one of the classiest and most advanced cultures in the entire world.

I think it would be a mistake to take away French from the language program at the high school. French is spoken in many countries throughout the world. And the program is a fantastic experience for the kids in the district exposing them to a completely different culture and way of life. Learning a foreign language is a wonderful eye opening experience. And offering just one language at the high school would be doing a dis-service to our kids. Particularly those who are interested in languages who have a natural gift for it and who might want to pursue careers that could benefit from such opportunities.

French is one of the main reasons why I continued langue into college, and especially the teachers. Madame Radcliffe and Kushner have become family. Seeing the French program disappear would be s huge shame

From hosting an exchange student from France to going to Québec, I found myself more than I thought I could while in high school. This would not of happened if it weren't for the French program. Also, taking French classes has helped me figure out what I want to do once I get out of school.

Hearing that the French program might be taken away from John Jay is tragic. French was by far my favorite subject in school and it took me all over the world. I participated in the Cagnes-sur-Mer, France exchange and the Québec trip, both of which were transformative. My language skills skyrocketed after my opportunity to live with a French family. Even though the program was 5 years ago, I stay in touch with my French host family and I plan to for the rest of my life. I actually visited them this past fall!
While these programs were fantastic, I would have loved absolutely everything about the French program without it and I know that other students would agree. I came out of JJHS with such an affinity for French language and culture that I decided to base my career path around it. I am majoring in international business and French. This past fall I studied abroad in Paris and came out of the program completely fluent, unlike the other people on my program who started taking French in college instead of high school. This opportunity allowed me to see that French is high in demand in the business and political world; it is the working and official language of the UN, UNESCO, NATO, The Red Cross, The International Olympic Committee. There are also so many important French companies that look for French speakers such as L'Oreal, Louis Vuitton, Lancôme, Société Géneral, BNP Paribas, etc. I honestly couldn't imagine my life right now if I never had the JJHS French program. It opened up so many doors for me and was a key player in giving me a fulfilling and well-rounded high school experience and I just hope that these opportunities stay open for current students.
