Dornell is amazingly important to LACHSA. He is not only a music assistant but a teacher and mentor to us each and every day. To quote current lachsa students, "he is the glue of the music department" and clearly deserves better than this.

Keep Dornell. If the students say they need him, believe that. Administration: Trust your students. I understand about making cuts, but some people you just have to keep and work out the red ink on the balance sheet later.

I worked at LACHSA for nearly two years, and had the pleasure to talk with Dornell consistently over that time. He works tirelessly to keep the music department running and acts with the utmost professionalism and grace under pressure. He is an integral part of LACHSA, and he needs to stay.

Dornel is more than a music assistant he is a mentor a counselor and the voice of the students his role at the school is so much bigger than is presented by his title. He is LACHSA

I was a music student at LACHSA and I graduated in 2013. I can honestly say that Dornell has had a positive impact on all of the students in the music department. It would be a shame to fire someone so inspirational and important to the music department.

I feel that Dornell Carr has been unfairly denied to continue his teaching. His contributive and caring qualities are what has helped me grow as a student, and as a musician. I feel that it is unnecessary to lose staff members who have advanced LACHSA, instead of focusing on those who have hindered our successes.

Dornell is a TREASURE. Losing him is nothing short of a CRUSHING BLOW to our entire Music Dept. Not only is he a consummate musician (can we all say "Stevie Wonder!"), but his attention to the kids is unparalleled. Not only will he meet with kids before school, during lunch, or after school, but there has been many a night when my kid emailed or called him to ask about rehearsals or for help with her compositions. Accompanists excel in a field that few people understand. He is not just a piano player. An accompanist must literally "join" with the artist they are supporting. I know, because my daughter has been a violinist all of her life at the Colburn School. An accompanist must watch and listen to their artist, adjust their tempo, sometimes even feed the artist the next few notes if they stumble. Accompanists have such an amazing skill set that they have their own union! My daughter is now in the Opera Dept. The time and effort Dornell puts into everything musical (which includes dance and theater) at our school is unprecedented. My other daughter is a dancer. Every REAL dance studio has a live accompanist. It is essential. If we lose Dornell, we lose the lynchpin that holds our music dept together. It is not only a travesty but an insult to a man who has given every bit of his soul to this school. He deserves not only his job back, but AN APOLOGY FROM ADMINISTRATION. Nothing less than that is acceptable.
