The district finally backed down and Colonel Pugh is staying at the school. It has been an exhausting road for all of us but we proved that our community will not be ignored. Please keep a close eye on the classroom atmosphere as we move forward.
The administration has asked Colonel Pugh to resign at the end of this school year. This year has been a struggle between the instructors. If you disagree with the administrations decision then please sign this petition.
The emails I receive from students about the impact of this decision are heavy to carry, but they prove why this fight is necessary. I am still pressing the administration for a real explanation while they continue to offer nothing but closed doors.

Colonel Pugh is a shining example of a quality leader & the numerous awards/recognitions that the Deland HS AFJRROTC has received is tangible evidence of that. This program will suffer w/o his leadership/experience.

Having met and talked with Colonel Pugh on 3 occasions -open house and 2 activities, he had fine rapport with parents and students, keeping the programs running smoothly and efficiently.

Colonel Pugh its one of the best teacher, and is not only a teacher, he also thought us how to be a family. This is my first in ROTC and its awsome and I hope that he stays because without him it would never be the same. He is a great person, and I hope that all of this is fixed.

I fully support Col Pugh. He was a Godsend to my son Ricky. The love and kindness he showed my family during our deepest hour will be remembered for all my life. He is a superior leader, not just teacher. He is the kind of man that exemplifies a role model.

I am at a loss to understand the rationale behind such a request? I am a veteran of Jr. ROTC as well as the US Army. I believe the colonel is an honorable man and he has proven himself a wonderful instructor to both of my children. This is far more than I can say for many of the other teachers and staff at DHS. Keep Co. Pugh in place! Keep honor at DHS.

When researching what schools would be best for my children, Deland High stood out, mainly because of the AFJROTC program, and the credentials of Colonel Pugh. My daughter plans to make the Air Force her career, and is brokenhearted over the news of his impending retirement. I fear that she may not even stay in the program - especially if Treena Merck stays on.
