I loved taking Chinese at West! This is such an important program and it’s ridiculous to cut it.

Knowledge of the Chinese language sets students up to be better able to do business in the global economy, thus stimulating our own. to cut it is to hurt our students, our teachers, and our nation at large.

As a West High graduate and a community member, I find the preservation of this extremely important!

I can attest to the utility of knowing a second common language. I’m a non-Latino who chose to learn to speak fluent Spanish as a young man starting in High School and I presently work in healthcare In California. I’ve also been a business traveler in Latin America too. My point is that I could insert Chinese where I wrote Spanish and insert any number of destinations in the Western Pacific Rim where I wrote Latin America if I were fluent in Mandarin Chinese. My point is that it’s unacceptable to discontinue this comprehensive Chinese language education program it’s a denial of an opportunity that creates a life pathway for young people in this school. This program is a rarity in secondary education and it deserves to continue to exist.

As a parent who has a bilingual daughter, who attended West High, and now lives in an Asian country, I believe that giving students a variety of different languages to choose from contributes favorably to their future. West High School is centrally located among a diverse population. This makes no sense. Don't let politics get in the way of enriching students.

I think the program brings a necessary sense of diversity. It should remain permanently.
