Ms. Luo is one of the kindest teachers at West. She advocates passionately for her students and is incredibly invested in their learning. The language programs are the only programs where students remain under the tutelage of one teacher for many years at a time; I cannot stress enough how helpful that multi-year relationship between teachers and students is.

I took Chinese at West High from 2012-2016. Mrs. Luo was one of the best teachers during my time at West, patient and encouraging. Being half-Chinese, this program allowed me to learn my mom's language and get closer to her and understand more of her culture. The Chinese program at West taught more than just the language, we learned about the culture and cuisine. Being able to take Chinese in high school was a very important part of my educational history. Please keep this program.

I studied Chinese with Luo lao shi for 5 years at west from 7th-11th grade and not only were some of my fondest memories at that school but she inspired a love of Chinese culture and language. My friends and I from that class still say old phrases we remember, we greet each other in mandarin, and so many more small ways in which Professor Luo has inspired this love in us all. I would be deeply saddened to see this program cut, Ms Luo was the most dedicated, patient, understanding, and overall best teacher I had in my six years at West High School. I was certainly not the best-behaved student in her class as a 14-something year old, and not only did she put up with me for all those years, in retrospect she was easily one of the most influential mentors in my growth and maturation during high school. She was more than a teacher to us in those years, helping keep myself, and others I know, on the right path :)
