Keep Chinese Language Learning Alive at West

Keep West diverse.

Amazing person!!

We should keep the Chinese class at West High School. It's an important part of culture with a long history in the school. If we make any drastic changes, it could harm students and the community. The dedication and hard work of the teacher Luo who have been teaching this unique Chinese class for years is something that can't be replaced. This class has helped many students improve their language skills and is especially valuable because it was designed specifically to cater to Utah's unique linguistic needs. Canceling or discontinuing this program would not only hurt the students but also present a negative image for the district as a whole, which already has solid educational institutions like West High School. Therefore, I strongly support keeping this program alive for the benefit of both the students and the community.

THIS IS SO ANNOYING. WE HAVE BEEN AT 95% since 1200 people have signed. WE ARE AT 1600 AND STILL AT 95%. THE MATH IS NOT MATHING!!!

Emmy Luo and the Chinese language program was the reason I attended West in the first place, and it really kickstarted my curiosity about our rapidly globalizing world. My time in West’s Chinese courses were foundational to my education, and Emmy Luo’s care for her students is a rare and exceptional gift.

My child is enrolled in the class already and canceling the class will significantly impact her performance at West.

Loved the Mandarin program at West, and my daughter learned well enough that she can speak with a sibling, and an occasional tourist.

My daughter (class of ‘24) took Chinese several years at West, including AP. The teacher was enthusiastic and dedicated to helping her learn not just the language but the culture as well. Mandarin is the most spoken language in the world, and the ability to speak it will enhance students’ opportunities. There are multiple dual immersion programs throughout Utah which I feel further demonstrates the importance of preparing students with the ability to communicate in Chinese.

She is the best teacher ever and I learned so much Chinese in so little and learning new languages is exactly what I need to grow my resumes for jobs!

Please do not reduce course offerings in the Foreign Language department.

I’m a recent West High alum and we need to make sure the spirit of multiculturalism and learning stay alive and well at West

dont strip children of cultural knowledge, find something else to drop if ur budget is in jeopardy.

Please keep the Chinese classes!

Exposure to diverse languages is a foundation of the ability to think creatively, an ability that is critical in today’s political environment.

This is the best teacher that west has ever had you guys cannot and will not do this.

Mandarin must be one of the most important languages for Americans to know. It certainly will play an important role in our future.
