I attended West from 2008-2014 as a student in the ELP and IB programs. I have now traveled to over 50 countries and the access to language learning at West High was one of the key aspects of my upbringing that inspired and facilitated my ability to work internationally. Ms Luo let me audit her class when I was a junior and senior on a low course load and I would be truly ashamed of my Alma Mater if they cut this program before she qualifies for her pension. Have some dignity, respect, and courage - I want to continue to be proud of my school but it becomes harder and harder as your ethics stray.

My name is Emmy Luo. I am the Chinese teacher, teaching Chinese levels 1, 2, 3, 4, AP, and IB classes since 2008.
The administers of West High School recently informed me that the entire Chinese programs will be cut in steps: first step, cut Chinese levels 1 and 2 classes, and keep Chinese levels 3, 4, AP, and IB for the 2025 -26 school year. For the 2025 -26 school year, Mandarin Chinese level 1 had 44 students registered in the grades 9-12 (not including the coming Elpers from elementary magnet program), and Mandarin Chinese level 2 with 20 students registered until 14 March 2025. That means the cutting Chinese levels 1 and 2 classes from the 2025-26 school year will ignore the needs of 64 students of learning Chinese language!
This decision puts the entire 18-year legacy of Chinese language education of West High School at risk.

I love taking Chinese Luo Lao shi is a good teacher she deserves and has the right to stay at west and keep teaching her beautiful language and I would love to keep learning from her

My friends take this class and they would be ahead by 2-3 classes in high school but they would have to go back to and language 1 which sucks.

Taking away Chinese from West is equivalent to taking away the culture of 200 students or more. Why?
