Keep Chinese Language Learning Alive at West

This is an IMPORTANT subject for students at West High! Both of my kids have taken this class all four years.

My son is taking full advantage of this class and he’s really learning so much from it, I’m not exaggerating. Please allow other students to take advantage of this. Hardly anyone teaches Chinese in the valley.

Emmy Luo and the Chinese program at a West are indispensable. Ms. Luo brims with positivity and passion, matched with cultural and institutional knowledge that make this program special. Degrading the West High Chinese program would be misguided.

Ms. Luo substantially changed my life for the better. It would be a critical blunder to remove such a impactful teacher and program from West High School. Her contributions allowed me to receive two full ride scholarships sponsored by the US state department to study Chinese. Without the Chinese language program at West, and most importantly: Emmy Luo, I never would have had that opportunity. If you remove this program you are robbing thousands of future students walking through the halls of West High School.

Chinese is an incredibly valuable world language, and to cut it from the school program would be a disservice not only to the instructors, but importantly the students at West

This is really sad. All that dedication she put in.

My child studies in West High because of this Chinese program. It is a good program, and the teacher Ms. Luo is a great teacher. My child learned not only reading, speaking and writing in Chinese but also the rich Chinese culture and thoughts. This program has educated many students like my child. Why the school wants to eliminate such a well established language program? Once it is gone, it will never come back! Students in Salt Lake School district will no longer have the same opportunities like their elder brothers and sisters. Please keep Chinese program!

The Chinese program at West High School was one of my favorite and most memorable part of my high school experience. It is so important to learn not just different languages but also different cultures. I truly believe that this program made a difference in my life and helped me excel in college and beyond.

I am an alumni of West and had several friends who took classes in the Chinese program. It would be an absolute shame to lose this opportunity. Classes like these are what makes this school a world class institution in my view. This is an opportunity almost impossible to afford for the community this school serves otherwise.

The best thing i heard about West is her unique IB and AP program, plus the various language program including Chinese. Please keep it up. High school education is very important to prepare our children to stand strong in the future world.
