Please do not take away this program. It has been life-changing for my daughters that have also been in the dual immersion program. One of my daughters wants to be a Chinese teacher and has a full ride scholarship with the U. Please don’t take her future away.

Chinese is one of the most spoken languages in the world! Also it’s looking like it will become more and more relevant in an increasingly multipolar world, so to cut this program would be lunacy.

I did not have Ms. Luo at West. I always walked past her classroom and she always greeted others with a smile. The energy of learning in her classroom is contagious. My peers who took her class encouraged me to learn a language and I participated in many language classes. Her teaching makes an impact whether it’s being in her classroom learning or directly from the students she teaches and how she motivates others. Please reconsider!

Chinese with Luo Laoshi was fundamental to my experience at West High School. Luo Laoshi helped me succeed at this language starting from eighth grade as an ELPer until I passed the IB exam with high scores at the end of high school. Chinese is one of the most spoken languages in Utah, in the States, and in the world. Please don’t cut the Chinese program at West!

This is going to make kids more lazy if it gets cut. Having the option to learn Chinese (or a 2nd language) is a blessing to this generation and it should be a requirement. I hope it all turns out well. God bless us all.

I loved taking Chinese at West! Luo Laoshi was a pillar of my high school experience and the absence of the Chinese program would be sorely missed.

As a former IB student at West, I respectfully urge the school to reconsider this decision. Mandarin is an increasingly valuable skill in today’s global economy, and offering it would provide students with a significant advantage as they prepare to enter the business world. Discontinuing this language offering would be a disservice to the diverse and ambitious student body at West.
