Keep Cherrydale Library Open

My kids and I love this library. It would be very sad to see it close.

My family uses the Cherrydale library at least once a week. Please don’t close it!

Save Cherrydale Library— children need more places to ditch the phones and actually read/conncet, not less!

As a senior citizen, Cherrydale Library in particular and APL generally are absolutely central to my quality of life in this community.

Cherrydale Library is a community treasure. Board members, please recognize the high value of maintaining this vital library and learning center to current and future generations against the inconsequential short term savings from abandoning it. Stand up against this short-sighted staff proposal and make the right choice for our community by keeping Cherrydale Library open!

We always loved to come here. It would be so sad for the close by neighbourhood to see this little library go!

Please save our neighborhood library.

I moved to Arlington 33 years ago after my children were done with K-12. The three "free" things have I used the most in Arlington are the tennis courts, Madison Dog Park, and Cherrydale Library, and now, retired, I no longer use the tennis courts, and the dog has died. But I have willingly paid Arlington real estate taxes, supported the schools and parks, and volunteered for community service in return for the tennis courts, dog park, and the Cherrydale Library. Please let me have this small bit of Arlington. The Board routinely suggests closing the Cherrydale Library, noting that Central Library is only a mile away. But that's another mile to walk after walking 2 miles from North Arlington, and parking is getting more and more constrained at Central Library. Central Library is a wonderful resource, but a neighborhood library focused heavily on books and reading, it most definitely is not.

Closing a source of learning and enrichment is never an acceptable budget measure!

It is a shame that this is even being proposed when there are many other ways the county board can consider saving money. Taking away a historic landmark that is a cornerstone of our neighborhood isn't a "saving," it is indicative of subpar fiscal responsibility and tone deafness of what the community is actually voicing. I strongly urge the county board members to reconsider, and find alternative ways to save money -- perhaps by not pouring so much money in arbitrary traffic studies (e.g. Military & Nelly Custis). It is important for anyone reading this to consider that the library isn't just a place to borrow books. It is a core memory place for impressionable children to understand the act of sharing, belonging and a meeting place to partake in story-time. Do not close this library (or any library for that matter).

I used this library as a child 40 years ago and my kids use it today, generally about once a week. It's safe for kids to access via bike and on foot if they live on the north side of Langston Blvd, which is not a safe road for anyone to cross really! Lots of people in the community use it for story hour, clubs and meetings, a warm place to go on a cold day, a school bus hub stop, and more. As a branch library, it's smaller and less intimidating than huge Central Library, which makes it friendlier for kids and families. Is it not worthwhile to keep it in our library system???

My children grew up going to this library. We still pick up books here. The budget savings are insignificant.

I use the Cherrydale Library a LOT. Please don’t close it down.

Please stop cutting things you know little or nothing about and have likely never gone to see or experienced. You’ve no idea the important impact this library has on its sub-community.

This is our community’s library.

My children loved coming to Cherrydale Library growing up, initially for story time and then to check out books themselves. Its small size and warm, friendly atmosphere makes it very inviting for children--and for us older folks, too. Shutting it down would be a huge loss for the community.

Cherrydale Library offers a calm, safe environment for kids and adults unlike the other larger libraries in the county. You should raise late fees again before you close this special place.

Our intimate, neighborhood library promotes the love of books for young children and life long reading.

Our children grew up going to Cherrydale library & our grandchildren love it too. We love that we can walk to the library. It’s been a part of our community for long. Please do not close it.

Please don’t close the Cherrydale Library!! We can walk to it from our house and we love getting books from there regularly!
