The gritting of our roads around Stanninigton is essential, even currently when we get snow because the side roads are not cleared the cars spill out onto Stannington road, diverting the traffic from the other exit routes from Stannington into Malin bridge will just be a nightmare. Delays, congestion, pollution, and accident possibilities all increase.

If this plan is implemented it will have a devastating effect upon he economy of Sheffield, essential workers will be stranded at home, emergency vehicles will be unable to attend in a large part of the north west of Sheffield and as a result lives WILL be put at risk. Please rethink this crazy proposal.

Bradfield school and others have been criticised in the past for closing due to snow. Bradfield have since tried to stay open, but cannot see given it's location and most student transportation means being by bus, I cannot see how pupils and staff will be able to travel to the school if the roads are not gritted if snow fall is anything other than light. Any money saved by the council on gritting will surely be lost several fold in the wider Sheffield economy.

I live in Stannington with my family, my husband and I work at Sheffield Children's Hospital and Northern General Hospital respectively, and our daughter attends Bradfield High school. The impact of reduced gritting on our rural roads would have a huge impact on our attendance to school and to work. I have always been proud and impressed by the level of gritting in our area and in 10 years of living in Stannington have not missed a day at work through snow / ice. My daughter is due to start her GCSE's in September and we need the support to maintain her 100% attendance rate at this crucial time in her schooling. Please reconsider your policy and maintain the excellent standards that have been set in previous years.

Dungworth School is situated at the very top of Dungworth hill. If the weather from past years is to go on, the whole community will be stranded without specialised vehicles, a huge proportion of children will NOT be able to attend school over this long winter period. This will have the obvious impact of attendance, missed education, lost work hours due to child care, all of which contravenes and goes against everything that any city council desperately tries to maximise each year. This makes no sense whatsoever. In affect what you save from YOU budget has a financial consequences on somebody else's budget but from the same council coffers - Madness!

Reducing the gritting of rural routes will have a massive impact on our childrens attendance and at school and college, and my husband and I getting to work from Stannington. My son starts in Y10 in September which is a crucial year for him starting GCSEs. Non attendance or lateness due to school busses being unable to get the children to Bradfield School/Hillsborough College is completely unacceptable. Please reconsider your winter gritting strategy!

Residents in S6 and S35 pay the same council tax and have the same needs as S17, S11, S10 and S7. Any reduction in service needs to be the same for each area, otherwise it is discrimination and can be challenged as such.

I am very concerned that our children will not be able to get to school, and workers will not be able to get to work, the semi rural peripheries of sheffield could grind to a halt, resulting in cast amounts of money and productivity being lost. The main routes in to sheffield will be grid locked, resulting in increased travel delays and more safety issues. It is madness to pursue this costcutting measure.

The north side of the city has kept moving reasonably well in the last few bad winters due wholly to the teams of local 'farm' contractors and their knowledge of local conditions and roads. Amey did away with many of these teams last year and this decision was not tested in 2013/14, I absolutely dread to think what the consquences of the proposals will be for this area. I can only hope that sense prevails - these proposals do not make good reading for business let alone for the social and moral good of the city inhabitants

Yet again this side of the city is made to suffer. How are we supposed to function in bad weather with treacherous roads? The suggestion not to grit this area beggars belief!!!

Reducing the gritting is a plainly stupid idea, perhaps our council could save money on some of the senior manager's salaries instead? As a council tax payer I know what I'd rather my hard earned money was spent on. An proposing reducing grit bins and wardens (which surely must be a small saving) as well as reducing gritting lorry coverage is an even more stupid idea.

The criteria that Sheffield City Council is looking at is not on a like for like basis.They say that emergency staff must be able to get into work firstly find out where these people live then look again SHEFFIELD.Are the roads to be left if we have a winter like 2012????

Its not just snow clearing but gritting icy roads. is vital particularly in the rural areas round Bradfield where roads tend to be steeper, more exposed and more susceptible to surface water than in town. someone skids and ends up in a field at night likely not to be found for hours. Does it need someone to die before the council sees sense

I lived here over one winter only and I was amazed at how well the roads were gritted. However, even so, it made life very difficult when the weather was bad! This needs to be maintained!!

For the sake of £100k saving, this is nuts. The rural area is different to the urban area. When people get cut off in the urban area, they can just walk to a neighbour, or a corner shop, and they'll be OK. In some areas of Bradfield, there often isn't a neighbour for miles, let alone a shop or pub. This could be life changing, but the City Council don't seem to care, because they're insured and it's someone else's problem.
