As a first year ASL signer, I got into this course the same way that most do. I did not want to take Spanish so I chose ASL. It started off this way but as the year goes by I want to take this course, and want to continue taking it. It would be a true shame if ASL were to be cut, as I think that it has important history as well as it being a fun and interesting language to learn. I hope that the budget is altered to allow for ASL to stay for good.

Please keep ASL, I took three years of it at LJHS and it opened my eyes to the Deaf community. Currently I am enrolled in American Sign Language at Northeastern University and I often attend Deaf events. American Sign Language is more than just a language course, it provides knowledge about a community that most know little about. Without the experience of American Sign Language in High School, I would've never had the opportunity to emerse myself into a new society and gain a new perspective in life. So again, please continue ASL at La Jolla High School so that many more can be given that same opportunity.

Ms. Gans is an excellent teacher and has taught my daughter so much. I would love for future students to have this option - it's a useful alternative to Spanish and other foreign languages. Please reconsider retaining this skilled teacher and class!

LJHS needs to find the way to keep this program. The Spanish program at this school taught my son nada after three years. Meanwhile, my daughter in 1st year ASL is learning a lot and excited about it too.

Ask any asl student if they like asl and 100%. I am not taking asl but as a fellow student my friends have actually taught me a lot

Ms. Gans was my teacher for 4 years at La Jolla High. Her instruction provided me with a firm background in American Sign Language and Deaf Culture, which has given me a significant advantage over my classmates at CSU Northridge where I am pursuing a degree in Deaf Studies. Reducing the size of the ASL department means losing one of the most effective and knowledgeable ASL teachers in the district.
