ASL is a fundamental way to foster communication and tolerance within our community. We cannot lose that key educational resource!

Why deny our children the opportunity to communicate with over 10 million people in the US who are deaf or hard of hearing?

We NEED to encourage people to communicate with the deaf! Janelle Gans is an ASL teacher, if she is forced to leave do you replace with a teacher as equally intimate with deaf culture?

Mar 13, 2018 Asl was the best class I took at LJHS. That being said, the pure joy a deaf person has when we who’ve taken this class can speak to them in their language, INCREDIBLE. It’s crazy how by having a 5 minute conversation with a deaf person as a hearing person makes their whole day! It’s a simple thing for us all to learn, it means the world to a deaf person. 10/10 recommend keeping this class and ms. Gans she’s the absolute best.

I am now a 4th year college student who is on their last semester of an ASL interpeting program. I will be recieving my interpeting degree this spring. I started learning ASL at La Jolla High, and would not be where I am today if it were not for that class. It is what inspired me to continue on. LJHS, you are preventing future students from learning another language, culture, and possible career path. Shame on you!!!

Asl is an amazing language that has not only made my school days better, but it has honestly made my life better. Asl has taught me valuable culturale ideals and has taught me what true respect is. Without this class my days at LJHS would be very borong and even more stressful without my favorite class and amazing teacher.

I believe ASL is a great class that should continue to be taught at La Jolla High. A lot of people are interested in it and it should continue to be a choice for students to take. My older sister took ASL and it has inspired her to continue taking it in college. Also, a friend of my sister is majoring in ASL and he is studying to become an ASL interpreter. He decided to take this path because of the class he took at La Jolla High. Keep ASL at La Jolla High!

ASL was a wonderful class that provided me with a useful communication tool that I have used at work and on the go.
