Not only was I a student there but the artwork on those walls are beautiful. That is what makes the school, because a piece of each student was left behind in each art piece. I can't believe it would even cross your mind to paint over that.

All of the art that are on that wall are a part of this school's history and the people who passed through it. Painting over the art will destroy the memories kept in those paintings and all of the hard work the artists put into them along with the impact it has on the students.
These works of art capture what people before us were feeling and an insight on what was happening at the time. There are paintings from historic events, other places, to even jokes that were popular during that time. There is even a picture as a remembrance of a boy who died of cancer way too early; who I knew before he died.
Not only does it act as a medium where memories can be preserved and cherished, it acts as a beacon of inspiration for other artists who see it. The art adds life to the hallway opposed to the lifeless looking white hallways that can be found at other places in the school. It lets students see different perspectives from the people around them who they learn, talk, and look up to in some cases.
If you get rid of the art, there will be nothing left from the people who came before but some old certificates and a plaque that says who was on honor role every year. These do not accurately represent the character or the minds of the previous classes like this art does. Without the art, what culture are we leaving behind.

How disrespectful it would be to erase our childrens history. The honor they had for giving creativity to their school than erase it like it never existed? Absolutely disrespectful.

As a student who went to West we didn't have this and I loved seeing it at East each time I went I think it should stay up its beautiful and fun to see what each student created when they were a teen.

I was a west campus student and every time I took a trip to east for my graphic design class, I'd wander these walls admiring the artwork that STUDENTS from THIS SCHOOL created. There's not a single bad piece of art on any one of those walls. A lot of my friends and acquaintances have pieces of their own within these halls. Not only are these paintings expressions of emotion, they're well crafted. Both campuses are oozing with talented artists, and painting over previous works would be extremely discouraging to future potential craftsmen. Why would they bother trying to express themselves when the threat of oppression lingers over their heads? There is no feasible reason to coat over the artwork of the past students. It gives the high school life and color. The art that covers those halls are the heartbeat of the school. The man who designed East Campus also designed prisons. But that doesn't mean his intention was for the school to emulate one from the interior.

Art is something we all enjoy. And art has meaning behind it, and to take that away from us is very self centered. There is no reason as to why it has to be taken off the walls. So leave it.

Walking down that hall was always a lot of fun and it showed years of artwork that is interesting and just a joy to see. Why would you want to get rid of students personal artwork? You say its unprofessional but what does that teach students then? That you have to be a plain, blank, boring white wall to get ahead in life? Thats just wrong.

This has been a tradition for 20 years.. I loved walking up and down the art hallway before school and during passing periods. I would hate to see it go
