Our neighbor on Midland Avenue, Ann O'Donoghue, recently constructed vegetable planters and placed them on her curbside property; unfortunately, she was subsequently asked by the Village to remove them. This petition is requesting that the Village allow her to keep her planters in place.

The presence of a curbside vegetable garden on Midland Avenue is welcome by the surrounding neighbors for obvious aesthetic and ecological reasons. And, because they are designed to allow space for pedestrian traffic on all sides, they do not pose a challenge to navigation on the sidewalk or on the street.

The Village's decision to allow Ann O'Donoghue to keep her curbside vegetable garden will establish a precedent for anyone interested in creating gardens in their small green spaces around town. Many Nyack residents and local government officials boast that we have a forward-thinking, green community. Now is the chance to align Village government action with the progressive thought that makes a community truly unique and conscientious.

Please, allow Ann O'Donoghue to keep her vegetable planters.

It is a shame that it has come down to the village is more worried about a garden in someone's yard opposed to the litter and filth that covers Main Street . Or the eyesore vacant and run down homes . Lets get real and focus on the bigger issues and not the harassment of someone growing a garden in their own yard, paying taxes . Keep Annie garden.
