We are trying to encourage kids from not sitting indoors getting fat. Closing the ice rink is not a good message as this gets people out the house and spending time with friends and family. Not to mention the under hyped success the Basingstoke bisons have had. Practice what you preach

The girls love ice skating and it is impossible to get anywhere else by bus from Tadley.

I love the ice rink. My daughter has been having lessons since June and has just started one to one too. I am to be found watching her skate every week. She loves ice skating and would be devastated if the rink closed as she wants to continue learning and practicing. As many people have stated, the rink should not have been allowed to deteriorate so much. The council must take responsibility. So many people use the rink and it’s great for fitness for both children and adults, as well as the ice hockey. I hope it can be saved moving forward as we are so lucky to have it.

We and our three kids really love skating. It keeps us all fit and entertained. The ice rink in Basingstoke must be kept whether it is in the current condition or as a new/renovated facility.

This is one of the nearest rinks to Bournemouth where I live. We use the rink approx. once a month and we shall miss it if this goes ahead

The ice rink is a great facility even in its terrible condition. It has a number of world class coaches using it. The hockey team is top level and we have a national figure skating champion. It is embarrassing that Basingstoke and Deane have let this great facility get into such a bad state through no maintenance.

Given that they are both Olympic Sports and a good way for people (especially youngsters) to keep fit, provision of Ice Rink is as important as Swimming Pools. Having been a regular user of Bristol and Icetrax Poole Rinks I also know that they are also very sociable places ideal giving teenagers somewhere to go in the evenings.

Groups of us travel to Basingstoke ice rink regularly from Poole, Bournemouth, Southampton and surrounding areas as we no longer have local ice rinks (80 miles for me). It would be so sad to lose yet another rink.

This is an established and integral community leisure facility providing healthy fun and fitness to people of all ages, not to mention the spectacle of ice hockey. It would be a tremendous loss to Basingstoke.

As an ice hockey player, skater, supporter, spectator, parent and concerned citizen, I say please support the community and back the restoration of the current ice rink or vote to include a new ice rink in the redevelopment of the Basingstoke leisure park.

Basingstoke and Deanecouncil should never have sold the rink. It should like all leisure and sport facilities be run as a facility by the council.
