As one of the largest established youth programs in the South Bay, we at South Bay Divas provide a positive learning atmosphere for local children on a weekly basis. Established in 2011 as a cheerleading and tumbling facility, we pride ourselves in our local community involvement and our ability to represent San Pedro and the South Bay at large.
Throughout the years, we have consistently added to our SBD family. This past summer 2018, we tripled our competitive program's size by taking over two collapsing programs; One led to opening our second location in Upland, CA, and the other was another local cheerleading gym, Diamond Allstars, who closed their doors in June 2018. When we at South Bay Divas received the information that Diamond Allstars were shutting their doors, we found it to be our obligation to provide a new home for those athletes and families by any means necessary. We have welcomed their families with unconditional support and open arms to continue pursuing their passion in a local and supportive environment for extracurricular activities.
In order to accommodate this growth at our San Pedro location, we were required to move from our 3,000 sq. ft. facility to a 10,000 sq. ft. facility. 750 W. Basin Street is the only building currently in San Pedro that will allow us to properly train 200+ athletes that attend our gym on a weekly basis.
Unfortunately, the neighboring homes do not want SBD to remain at this location due to noise from within the gym and parking lot amongst the children and their families. If we are able to stay at 750 W. Basin Street, we are going to continue working towards the appropriate measures to decrease the sound emitted from the building, and implement policies to decrease parking lot noise, as we have done in the past.
Over the last 8 years, SBD has become a favorite for families in the South Bay to bring their children. Our families consider us to be their home away from home as well as a positive outlet for their children. By staying in San Pedro, we would not only be able to continue providing a safe environment for local children, but also allow these families access to an environment where their children can blossom and develop a passion for a sport that is our entire world. San Pedro is our roots, and we hope you all see the importance it has to our athletes, families, and program.
By signing this petition, you support and encourage South Bay Divas to remain at 750 W. Basin Street in San Pedro, CA.

Reaching this current level of support demonstrates the deep value our community places on keeping these programs accessible to our youth. The momentum we are seeing proves that the work we do at South Bay Divas resonates far beyond the walls of our gym.

They sell ear plugs at Walmart by the box, get some. The gym didn't pop up over night. They girls are national championships and sought be viewed as a average group of girls. This situation would be no different then living by a school.
I can't understand why people would try and stop a positive thing for our youth. They didn't ask for these developers to build in a industrial area! These properties owners should've thought about that first!! God bless this program..
Please keep this wonderful activity, which creates high self esteem and teamwork in San Pedro. It is a positive and healthy program for the children of today. Keeps them active and using energy and time in a way to keep them busy, in something they love!
This program has helped my daughter reach her athletic goals and her confidence has shot through the roof. SBD under the tutelage of Coach Charisma is a top program that promotes unity, dedication, and hard work. It’s a family and the family needs a home to thrive.
With all the negativity in this world, schools etc...these children need a place that is a safe & positive atmosphere. My son is a coach here and he loves what he does and being a positive role model for these children. Thank you.
I'm assuming the complaining has been going on for a while. Measures to keep the noise down /sound proofing etc should have been done prior to it escalating to this. It isn't a lot to ask to not have to hear cheerleaders screaming on a daily basis. Just because it was a cheer gym prior to, ultimately the team doesn't own the property. I doubt the homeowners knew about the noise prior to. What a nightmare I'm glad I don't live next to a cheer gym. I'm pretty sure that the noise affects the property values as well. Everyone needs to put themselves in the other person's shoes and compromise. It sounds like it might be too late for that.
These people bought there home knowing there was a cheer gym there because Diamond cheer was there before these homes were even built, there complaining about the noise but they never said he was video taping the kids in there gym shorts and I don’t know what kid of person he is.

My daughter was in competive cheer for 13years. Not once we’re there any complaints from neighbors or businesses about noise. If Bay doors are closed it’s truly not a big deal. The kids work hard at what they do and deserve to do it in peace.
