How do we teach them the proper ways of hockey if they can't use the whole ice. Just like checking kids going into Bantem and are getting hurt because they don't know how to do it right or check right

Having half ice for 7/8's is going to hold back skilled players. My son already doesn't want to play next year because of these changes. If they go ahead with 7/8 half ice then they need to tier hockey so the more skilled players can play with skilled players!

This is RIDICULOUS! 7 & 8 year olds need to skate a full ice surface. QUIT changing the GAME!!!! If kids or parents don't like it . . . . QUIT! Do something else.

This is a silly idea. Playing on a full ice surface teaches all the rules while developing skills. It will just be holding back the more skilled players to wait for the weaker ones ? I 100% do not agree with this idea ! !

7/8 year olds enjoy playing full ice hockey games. There is no need to change something that isn't broken. When my child played 5/6 in his final year at that age he thought cross ice was boring and not challenging so we registered him for spring AAA. By moving the program similar to 5/6 program you will drive parents with children with higher skill to seek out other options that are not regulated the same. This just creates larger gaps in skill and creates more problems.

This is ridiculous! Let our kids be kids! Let them play the game! My kids couldn't wait to get to full ice and line changes! What could the rational be behind this move!!!!??????

Dislike and would accept changes if a heads up of one or two seasons was given so that kids that played a year on big ice don't get pulled back to small ice

Where to even start... They should leave the game as it is, they already shortened the ice for the squirts division. I think this change will not help at all considering most players have already gotten use to full ice regulations and not to mention, but now are they going to put little blue lines in each end for off sides? Lol this is totally wrong and as a coach I'm against it sorry not sorry.

I think this is a poorly thought out plan and is so sparse in the details of what is happening, when it will be done and why, it's quite laughable.
The article mentions how it will divide parents, but as both a parent and a coach, I haven't spoken to a single parent or other coach that thought this was a good plan.
Timbits makes sense to have 1/2 ice to encourage those touches, but they also are very different from how "real" hockey is played in the fact there are no real rules, no offides,no icing, no real positions being played.
Novice has all that and it's taught as the year goes on, but it would essentially get thrown out the door in the interest of encouraging more touches of the puck. If 2 teams are both playing positions(forwards/defense), every player regardless of skill is going to get touches just by playing their position correctly.
The lack of details to me is really concerning. I feel like the details are going to magically come out right *after* the parents shell out the money for this upcoming season.

There will be more collisions on the ice. Many 7/8 year olds are fast skaters!
