Did you know that the Municipal Water Authority of Adams Township is charging you a monthly service charge of $37.65 for a 1 inch water meter in townhomes built with a sprinkler system. The single family homes with a 5/8 inch meter are only paying $15.00 per month. Why you ask? Since January 2010 a law was passed that required townhomes to install a sprinkler system at the time of construction. The fee for this system was built into your homes price and now being exploited by the water company. The inside sprinkler system requires a 1 inch meter instead of the standard 5/8 inch line in single family homes. We are only reaping the benefits of this service in the event of a tragic house fire.
I have included an example, so you can see the real numbers for yourself. If you lived in Cranberry Twp and used 6000 gallons per quarter your bill would be approximately $60.50 (water only). That same 6000 gallons would cost you approximately $153.00 (water only) in Adams Twp. Are you willing to pay an extra $370 per year for your water service? Or even $270 more than the single family home up the street?
Please sign this petition as a voice that you as a home owner are not willing to be charged an excessive fee by the water company.

RESOLUTION NO. 2009 - 5
A Resolution of the Municipal Water Authority of Adams Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania, establishing water rates and charges for the furnishing of water services, effective January 1, 2010.
All users of water rendered and metered by the Authority shall pay the following monthly minimum charges and rates:
A. Minimum Charges: (Based on size of meter)
5/8" x 3/4" $15.00 <--- Single Family Home
3/4" x 3/4" $22.60
1" $37.65 <--- Townhome
1 1/2" $75.25
2" $120.25
3" Compound $336.75
6" Compound Fire Flow $393.75
8” Compound Fire Flow $565.50
Rates per 1,000 gallons:
0 - 250,000 gallons $6.65 per /1000 gallons used
250,000 and above $6.35 per /1000 gallons used
B. Tapping Charges:
3/4" Tap is $2,350.00 plus turn on fee of $25.00.
Larger tap at actual cost but not less than $2,350.00 plus turn on fee of $25.00.
Developer fee of $1,195.35 plus turn on fee of $25.00.
C. Meter Pits: (Service Lines over 200 ft. long)
5/8" x 3/4" $400.00 plus tapping charges listed in B above.
1" $500.00 plus tapping charges listed in B above.
D. Late charge of 10% per month on 30 days past due. Interest charge of .83% per month on 60 days past due.
E. Additional Meters:
$199.74 for each meter 5/8" x 3/4".
Actual cost of meter plus installation for each 3/4" meter or larger.
All resolutions or part of resolutions inconsistent herewith are hereby repealed.
