In Memory of my Best friend Katlin (Pronounced CAT- LYNN) Cousineau, I would like to have a petition go around to show support to have new legislation that I have requested to be created, that has gotten all the way to Parliment Hill and to the Minister of Justice, Rob Nicholson, to consider "Katlins' Law" to create and enforce new laws, specifically in the criminal code area to enforce harsher punishment for anyone who is involved in a torture murder (In Canada). --------------------------------------------------- THIS IS THE REASON FOR THIS PETITION: Katlin had a developmental disability and had the mental aquity of a young teenager, but was 23. In the spring of 2005, 2 men resided with Katlin and her caretaker, and they immediately developed severe animosity towards Katlin. They confined her to the basement, and prolonged sadistic torture ocurred (so sadistic, that it is too disturbing and graphic to publish.) This went on for 6 months. On November 12th 2005, she was murdered by these 2 monsters in the basement of the home. This all took place on HWY 93 in Midland, ON. They set the house a blaze to cover up evidence, but it was quickly established by forensic investigators and police that this was a torture murder. The monsters names are Paul Bradey,Matthew Sitte (pronounced, SIT-TAY) and the negligent "caretaker", Susanna Balogh. Balogh also subjected her 3 young children to witness this. They were caught for the HORRIBLE crime, but unfortunately, The sentences were OUTRAGEOUS.. The "caretaker", Susanna Balogh did nothing to stop this crime and only recieved 8 years, after making a "deal" with the crown attorney to testify against Paul Brady, in exchange for a lighter sentence, which was converted into a 64 month sentence after time served (she was sentenced on August 16th 2007), and she is eligible for parole in February 2010. She wasn't even charged with child endangerment! Matthew Sitte also made a "deal" with the Crown attorney for a lighter sentence in exchange for his testimony against Bradey. He received a life sentence with the possibility of parole after 10 years (2nd degree murder, and was sentenced on November 16th, 2007) The other monster, Paul Bradey, is believed to be the "Ring Leader" and his murder trial has begun. Unfortunately, because of what is called the "grandfather clause" it is too late to have these monsters fall under this new legislation that we would like to have passed, but if passed, people who commit a torture murder will spend the rest of their life in prision. What is requested is: * Mandatory life sentences for anyone involved in a torture crime and/or murder, WITHOUT the possibility of parole.

Updates

July 30, 2009

The feedback I continue to receive reminds me that Katlin's story resonates deeply with people who demand a more rigorous standard of justice. Correspondence is ongoing with officials to ensure that the proposal for Katlin's Law remains a priority in legislative discussions.

The momentum behind this initiative continues to grow at a pace that suggests a genuine public demand for legislative change. This level of engagement provides significant encouragement as I prepare to present our position to the Minister of Justice.

I remember when this happened in Midland. It was all anyone could talk about. Something needs to change in the criminal code.

Ridiculous that they get a slap on the wrist for this. My heart goes out to the family.

This makes me sick to my stomach. Those people should never get to see the light of day again. Justice for Katlin.

Way too lenient for the crime committed. Laws in this country are a joke sometimes.
