The era of performative cancellation is over. People see right through it now. Kate Smith was a patriot and the heartbeat of this franchise during its greatest years. Scrubbing her legacy based on a few 1930s recordings is a weak move that ignores decades of her service to this country. It’s time the Flyers stopped being afraid of the noise and brought back our tradition.

I am a firm believer that we can not base what was right and wrong in history using modern standards. Kate Smith deserves better than what is happening to her reputation and legacy.

I was a young boy during WWII but plenty old enough to know what was going on. Kate Smith was an integral part of the home front. Her spirit and, yes, her loving heart— let alone her beautiful, passionate, and wonderfully uplifting singing—were without doubt part of the every-day foundation for our victory in WWII. All the pathetic accusations against her are upon examination without merit—and are shameless in their absolute ignorance and malevolent intent. Would that Kate Smith's lovely songs and their contexts reach their frozen, atrophied hearts.

I grew up listening to Kate and I don’t see evidence that she was a racist; just someone who lived in a certain place in time. There will be more of this kind of thing, I believe there’s an agenda for it, and Kate seemed an easy target. The same accusation could be made against John Wayne, Frank Sinatra and so many others. Kate is just the beginning.

I'm glad someone did not turn their backs on such a very nice person. Keep playing God Bless American by Kate Smith. She is the only person who can sing the song right. Phila. should be ashame of themselves for taking down her statue and most of all, her memory. Its these types that are destroying out American History.
