Kate Smith's statue should reside in Wildwood where it will be appreciated. Wildwood is a town where Veteran's, Soldier's and Music have always been held sacred. Kate Smith's God Bless America is a song about honor & freedom that should be celebrated not silenced.

God Bless America reminds me of every day in school when I stood proudly to recite "The Pledge of Allegiance" and the love I felt for my country even as a small child. My family built a Summer home in Wildwood almost 100 years ago and we still have a place not too far away in Rio Grande, so of course we are more than happy to welcome Kate Smith's statue to reside in Wildwood forever. Wildwood is a town where Veteran's, Soldier's and Music will always be held sacred. When I hear Kate Smith's voice singing God Bless America, it reminds me of the honor I've always felt as an American. God Bless America is one of the first songs I remember learning to sing in school. This song reminds me of my Grandmother who worked endless hours in the Philadelphia Navy Yard during World War II supporting our country's war effort while her Marine husband was over seas fighting. I remember the stories she told me about life In 1940's South Philly & the courage the neighborhood guys had when they shipped off to war. I think about all the soldiers & young men who never came home. I think of the World World II, Korean War and Vietnam Veterans who proudly display their military hats & jackets all around Wildwood. I think about how badly our Vietnam Vets were treated after they came home. I think about Desert Storm and tying yellow ribbons around our trees to show support for our soldiers. I don't remember the moment it happened, I just know I always understood that being an American must always be valued and never be taken for granted. Kate Smith's voice singing God Bless America gives me all of those feelings. I feel proud when I listen to this song, patriotic when I sing this song and I understand the symbolism her performance of the song gave to our country. My Father always taught me this was the greatest country in the world and I could be anything I wanted to be if I worked hard enough. That is what America is to me.
