We the undersigned ask Blue Coat Systems to remove the following categories from those available to block. • Abortion • Alternative Sexualities/Lifestyles • LGBT • Sex Education If kids aren't presented with education about sex, it won't stop them having sex - they will simply be less educated about it, and this may lead to unwanted pregnancies and/or STI transmission, the most serious of which can render one sterile permanently. In a similar vein, if kids do get into a situation where they need abortion information without their parents knowing - not necessarily if they are pregnant, but if they are curious and do not want to worry their parents - they cannot do this with this filter option. Moving onto LGBT and 'Alternative Sexualities/Lifestyles': there is so much more to gender and sexuality than the gender-binary cis male-female relationships presented all too often in the public sphere as ideals. If this category is blocked due to a parent being homophobic, downright ignorant or naïve to the fact that their child may be seeking information regarding their sexuality or gender, it is this child that suffers more from not being able to access this information than the child who stumbles across it speculatively. Now, I realise that K9 will say that this is 'up to the parents' and is the parents decision - which, to some extent, it is. However, even giving the option of blocking this sort of content - most of which is educational and needs to be accessed by most if not all kids to make them realise that not everyone is like them, or that there are people like them, depending on the situation - is irresponsible. I believe it is more damaging to keep kids ignorant of the rest of the world, most of which may become necessary in their later life, than it is for them to access information on abortion, LGBT issues and sex education.

its so frustrating when schools block this stuff. students should be allowed to learn about who they are without the system hiding it from them. ridiculous.

total nonsense. filters shouldn't be censoring factual health info or lgbt content. kids are smart enough to look this stuff up anyway so let them do it safely.
