It shouldn't even matter that this child has down's syndrome. If an aide did this to ANY child, they should be investigated to the fullest extent of the law. This aide needs to be kept from working with children in the future.

As a Para Ed in a Special Ed self contained class, I have been hit, bitten, and kicked and I have never even had the slightest thought to physically harm any of these children. I am also a parent of a child with Down syndrome and I would not think twice about pressing charges if someone at school physically harmed my child.

It takes a certain kind of ignorance to think abusing a silent victim is even remotely acceptable or excusable. It is not and unless there are substantial consequences to the perpetrator, differently abled persons will continue to be ostracized and marginalized in a society that should treasure them and lift them up.
