Justice for Two Kachin Women in Burma
The two Kachin victims, Maran Lu Ra (20 years old) and Tangbau Hkawn Nan Tsin (21 years old), had come to Kaung Kha two years earlier to teach as volunteers with the Kachin Baptist Convention. Both were found dead in their shared bedroom on 20th January 2015, Tuesday morning, their bodies badly beaten, partially naked and showing signs of violent struggle, according to Kaung Kha villagers.
Villagers had accused the Burma Army of responsibility for the deaths. Villagers found footprints from an army boot and other evidence, including an army-issued belt near the two bodies.
The Burma Army has been accused of sexual violence in conflict and the rumor gained traction among the local community, some of whom claimed that the area has seen a recent rise in military presence.
The Burmese Government must immediately investigate for this case properly and justice for two Kachin women.
