This is a ridiculous waste. Others were involved and his punishment is the harshest. Why is that ? Because you can ? One day suspension is enough.

Thats just not right, the kid did nothing to warrant not be able to speak after all he worked hard in high school n was voted The highest honor by his classmates... There was no harm to anyone... This district has to stop being such stick in the muds!

Do detention if you need to give him a punishment. Leave his graduation alone and let him give his speech. If he made the top 20, he deserves it!

Senior pranks are a high school tradition. As a PHS graduate, I am familiar with the senior pranks of the past. This prank was clever, funny and not harmful to anyone or anything. This student earned his place as valedictorian through hard work and dedication to his education. Punishment for a silly, harmless prank should not diminish his efforts and accomplishments during his high school years. Punishing him in this way is going to be a terrible memory that will haunt him for years. Please find an alternate punishment.

Heard about this in Canada and I personally think not allowing him to speak is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. It was a prank, and a funny one at that. When I think of all the stuff kids in the US are doing this is the least harmful thing I can think of. Get a sense of humour and let the kid have his opportunity to give his speech back.

If a kid that threatens gun violence gets to stay in school and in proximity of the child he threatened( my child) then this kid should be able to give his speech. This prank caused no harm to anyone.
