Mark's such a lovely fellow, with a great sense of humour, and a strong track record with customers. It is very surprising and odd that he's been treated in this way. We support a further investigations. Good luck Mark!

Dear Sainsbury's, This sacking has come to my attention via Facebook. I have been served by Mark at your store and have known him to be kind and considerate. While I do not know the exact circumstances of his sacking, any complaint that is not verifiable would not be sufficient grounds for such action. Given he has worked for the store for nineteen years, surely in the first instance, and at the very most, a warning letter would be issued. This might also be contested with proper union (or otherwise) representation. Non of this has happened and he appears to have no right to defend himself. One commentator has described the action as potentially discriminatory and I would anyway expect better conduct from a major employer in the public realm. Perhaps the actions of his manager now need to be seriously called into question. As a result of Sainsbury's action I will now be taking my custom to a rival store unless, and until, Mark is restored or a clear justification for the Sainsbury's action given.

Mark was a very helpful and pleasant cashier. This seems very unfair.

I am shocked to learn that Sainsbury s have dismissed Mark. I have always found him to be extremely pleasant, polite and helpful. Sue Haslam

I am shocked and disturbed to hear of Mark's dismissal. I have looked on Sainsbury's - as a brand, and at this store in particular - as being a pioneer in the correct and fair treatment of disabled people, and as an employer that treats such employees with respect & fair handedness. While we have no knowledge of the background - if any - to this complaint, I find it difficult to believe that such a jolly, proud and approachable member of your team would behave in a manner that warranted dismissal. I hope that Sainsbury's will look again thoroughly at his record and reconsider their decision to terminate his employment.

Can someone tell me what the reason was for the sacking? I have dealt with him for many years, and he is ALWAYS polite, friendly and respectful and does his job extremely well. I have a disabled child as well and this type of behaviour from his employers is extremely unsettling - were they just looking for an excuse to get rid of someone they perceived as different? If a complaint was made it needs to be followed through with due process, and redress, not sacking. - I think an Employment Tribunal would look very dimly on this company. Is he in a Union? It's hard enough to get jobs as a disabled person, even if you are desperate and willing to work for nothing, as my daughter is, their actions are below contempt.

19 years good work with a company and one alleged and unproven incident. Disgusting!

I have been served many times by Mark and I thought it really forward thinking of Sainsbury's to not discriminate against learning disabilities until now. Mark has always come across as coming from a family that has brought him up well, polite and helpful. I could not imagine for a moment that he could be vulgar or derogatory let along insulting to anyone. I think there needs to be a further investigation in order to give him a fairer chance.

Devastating for such a loyal employee to be treated like this after so many years of loyalty.

I remember Mark from many Ashmead Primary School events where he was always super helpful and polite and it was great to see him working in New Cross Sainsburys. How sad that one disgruntled customer can blight the future of someone who values his job so highly
