I complained to Gateshead Council about there policy of dogs not on leads in Saltwell Park! Signs everywhere saying dogs Must be on leads but everyday there were dogs with owners running free and running up and barking and snapping at my puppy! Was told they can't enforce owners to put dogs on leads

Stricter penalties are needed to prevent these attacks

This is beyond tragic. I'm heartbroken for sweet Magic and her family. Magic, like most beloved pets was a deeply loved member of her family. The violence associated with this attack absolutely warrants action. There absolutely should be repercussions.

I am really upset by what happened to poor Magic, something has to change and in cases like this the owners should be prosecuted and dare I say it the offending dogs destroyed for an unprovoked attack.

Why have dangerous dog laws of you are not going to prosecute them? Shall we wait until it is a child next time? No lessons ever seem to be learnt.

Hope this gets passed as if you have a dog then you must take responsibility for what it does and all digs should be on leads in all public places.

Owners need to be held accountable if they dont keep their dogs under control, whatever the breed.

This needs serious attention. Owners can be prosecuted if their dog attacks sheep or wildlife but not domestic pets. It’s an anomaly and dogs causing this damage are more a danger to the public as they frequent popular walking area and public parks.

The law must change! Witnessing your dog beint attackt leaves one mentally scared. Just because theres is no visible physical injury, doesnt mean there none. Mental injury is just as bad as physical!

Owners have to be responsible for their animals and must be accountable for them .... whether it's a person or another dog they attack.

Something needs doing about this because if left it will just escalate into children, never wait till the “horse has bolted”

Disgusting. Owners need to be held accountable. No one should have to go through that and worse still knowing that the aggressive dogs are still out there and that this could and probably will happen again
