I’ve known Terry for most of my life and holds the same belief as I do that organized sports if any kind can play a critical part in building one’s character. I also firmly believe that he wouldn’t leave the students he coaches in a situation where they are vulnerable in any way, shape or form. He’s getting a raw deal and should be GC’s basketball coach for many years to come. The brass at GC really went beyond the pale in this decision.

Coach Dewaine has been a positive force in the Gates-Chili community. He has dedicated himself to helping his players both on and off the court. We live in a world where we teach kids about justice and fairness. This is not justice. His punishment was way behind harsh and way beyond unfair. By removing coach you are depriving his players of a mentor and father figure. You are taking away someone who truly cares about them as evidenced by him going through the time and utilizing his resources to provide them with a FREE trip to an NFL game, something most of them have never experienced. Finding men like Coach Dewaine is very hard. You may find someone with the same knowledge as him but not one with his heart or passion. Those are qualities that rub off on kids more than anything they will learn on the court.
