Justice for Buttons and all victims of violent dog attacks!!!

A terrible loss - this sweet little dog would have had NO way of defending himself whatsoever. Dogs that behave in ways that betray their violent genetic inheritance should NEVER be considered pet dogs, or their owners fooled into believing that they can out-love and out-train a dangerously purposeful canine heritage. Dogs of certain breeds require HANDLERS, not 'owners'. What is sufficient to own a Golden Retriever, is NOT sufficient to 'own' a Fighting Breed dog.
Normal dogs do NOT kill other dogs, not unless they were born and bred to do such a thing, and to enjoy doing it. Normal dogs DISPLAY and they inhibit their behaviour when a submissive dog displays that he is indeed submissive. Dogs like Pit Bulls, American Bulldogs, Bullmastiffs, Dogo Argentino and Presa Canarios do NOT adhere to normal canine behaviours, creating disgusting and heart-breaking stories like this FAR too often.
Dogs that have shown prior aggression must NOT be permitted to live to kill or mutilate another day. Irresponsible owners must be held out to the weight of the law and found wanting, punished accordingly and the offending dog destroyed for the safety of all.
May this harmless and much-loved little dog run whole and free at Rainbow Bridge, and may his story help prevent other innocent pets from suffering the same painful, frightening and lonely fate.

It is astounding that a dog with proven violent behavior, is lawfully allowed in public. Responsibility must rest with the dogs owner.

Our little Teddi is a visitor dog at Ridge Meadows too. On our rounds there this week there was much heartache over the loss of Buttons. I can't even imagine how devastating this loss is to John and Yvonne.

Buttons came to visit my daughter when she was in the hospital briefly, he was so sweet and put a huge smile on my daughters face:(

My dog Breena, a Havanese, is also a SJA Therapy Dog like Buttons who visits residents at Peace Arch Hospital Residential Care, as well as Paws $ Stories with children at Semiahmoo Library. I can't even imagine your devastating heartbreak at losing such a sweet and loving companion and part of your family. That dog should have been controlled and leashed, and owners should be held accountable for their negligence in costing a sweet innocent dog their life. Next time it could be another dog, or a child. I'm sorry I cannot attend the rally, but hope awareness is raised and justice comes to you.

Please note that the rally starts at 6:30pm on Tuesday Oct 6 at Spirit Square next to the Pitt Meadows City Hall. The attack dog is in hiding! Please come to the rally, you are the only ones that can change the laws. If we have hundreds out at this rally they will listen!! TV cameras and newspapers will be there. We only have a short window to get this done. I would like to think that maybe Buttons is looking down from the Rainbow Bridge and smiling. Yes fix the problem he is saying so that all children and my doggy friends will be safe in Pitt Meadows. Buttons lived for children and he only wanted to make people feel loved and safe, now it's my time to give back to him. I will fight for him. I am very nervous about talking at the meeting, but I am more mad at this system that I will do it, but I need everyones support. Maybe after this is over John and I can then mourn the passing of our dear Buttons. We are heartbroken.

The by law needs to be enforced and the penalty for noncompliance should reflect this very serious issue that cost the life of such a sweet little Therapy Dog who gave nothing but love to everyone who met her.

My heart goes out to you in the loss of your beautiful dog, Buttons. Thank you for trying to make the insanely lax dog laws stricter in an effort to protect the public. This attack should never have happened :(

This is a Disgrace, this animal which is a Pit bull type dog needs to be put down for the protection of the greater population both 2 and 4 legged.
No matter the breed any dog that attacks and kills or even severely mauls should be put down, they can't be fixed and we should not be their guinea pigs.

Where is the dog from? A Rescue? Who adopted him out if that's the case. Why are the local ordinances/laws so lax? This has to stop.

I am completely appalled that a dog that has a previous history is not going to be taken into custody and a hearing be held to determine what should happen. Shame on Pitt Meadows!!
