I am a Rochester native living in Norway. I was a patron of the Rochester Civic Theatre and just learned of this. I am so shocked and saddened! The Rochester Civic Theatre board of directors is obviously out of touch with its members and volunteers! I'm ashamed.

Too bad this could not have been corrected earlier and avoid this, but when there is so many decisions being made in secret, there is bound to be problems. Remember, this is 'theatre' and talented, creative people are often more sensitive to negative actions.
Let's get this settled quickly, for the good of RCT and the community.

I have volunteered in many shows at RCT over the years I have lived in Rochester Zander have attended many more. Volunteers are everything to a community theater, and the actions being taken by the board are not consistent with the vision and culture of RCT and its volunteers and patrons.

Regardless of the decision to remove Greg Miller, the way the board is treating him and the community of volunteers who have given years of loyal service after the fact is absolutely detestable.
This, among the other issues presented in this petition, remove any confidence I had in the theater I love.

As far as I know you can. Go to the box office. People paid for theatre the way it's been performed with the people who have supported it. That's no longer what it will be spent on.

RCT has done many wonderful things for the community and we have enjoyed so many shows. However, sadly, I can't support them at this time. Please bring back GREG MILLER! He has given his heart, his soul, his mind, his talent and expertise. Greg is a big part of the reason for RCT's success. I don't wish any bad things for the threatre. I want to see it thrive! Please reconsider board members!!

The magic of the Civic is in the connections, love, and talent of it's volunteers. We are too strong to be shut down and so the magic will live on! That is all that matters.

As someone who has not only volunteered at the Rochester Civic Theatre, but has been a donor for a number of years, I am very concerned by the direction the Board of Directors has decided to take. If this is a "community" theatre, why do they wish to go outside of the community to find directors? Unless there was a flagrant reason for firing a mainstay of the theatre, why try to undermine its mission? I actually wonder if Greg would want to be reinstated into an organization that seems to be headed in a very wrong direction. However, by all appearances, it does not seem fair that he was so summarily dismissed from a job he has been performing with such a positive and significant impact for the past 27 years.

If you don't bring Greg Miller back I already sense fury raging in the community. RCT Will be doomed if the board continues to act this way. Many people are very upset and I hear there will be a boycott from actors and a lot of the public. You need to do something quickly and reverse your decision.

It is time to bring back the term "Volunteer Run" Community Theater.
This is where
- the board of directors are elected by the Volunteers and Members.
- all meetings are open to the public.
- some professional staff are needed.

Somehow the RCT board of directors has systematically stripped the organization bylaws of any responsibility toward or participation by its constituents. How could this happen if annual meetings were well advertised (as required) or board meetings were truly open and help according to the bylaws?

It was just about this time of year 27 years ago that I was an RCT board member and serving on the hiring committee. The theatre was looking for a director for the young people's program as it existed at that time. After interviewing several outstanding candidates, our choice was unanimous; Greg Miller.
At that time, our board consisted of individuals with experience in all aspects of RCT, as well as patrons.
My question to the current board; other than being a Season Member as a requirement to serve on the board, what is the motivation for the current board members to serve?
Greg has served the theatre well. He has been a youth educator. He creates a stable environment for cast and crew. He offers encouragement and support.
Too many of us have encountered directors we would never work with again. I'm reminded of my experience in "Harvey. " It's tech week, I'm Elwood, just recovering from Chicken Pox, the middle of our rehearsal and the director yells out, "Pick up the f***ing pencil!" Five of us on stage for our first rehearsal without glasses. Yes, the pencil was a distraction. We got his point. Greg would never behave in this manner.
It's Rochester COMMUNITY Theatre. I hope the community WITHIN the theatre can convince the board that their decision was mis...directed.
