I am saddened by the suddenness and seeming capriciousness of theses events. I further wonder how the bylaws have been followed in these actions. What process was used to remove members'/voters' rights, apparently without their knowledge or consent? Have recent BOD elections occurred that prompted these controversial changes? If so, were members/voters apprised of the BOD members' platforms for their service? Upon what grounds were the changes undertaken? Depending on the circumstances of Mr. Miller's termination, might their now be significant capital ramifications, both financially and socially, that the BOD must consider? Was there a mission change that the members missed or were not consulted about?

One of the saddest days for the arts in Rochester. Greg Miller has faithfully, and masterfully served on staff with the Civic for over 25 years, bringing to life wonderful productions that consistently played for sold out audiences. There are hoards of volunteers who love him and his artistic vision and jumped at any chance to work with him on the shows he directed. (and who will no longer participate in any show on the RCT stage) This decision is an enormous loss for Rochester Civic Theatre and the theatrical/arts community at large and very telling of the way the current Board Of Directors views its role and power. They have consistently ignored the voices of the very people for whom The Civic exists (actors, musicians, playwrights, tech, designers, and longtime donors and audience members - people who LOVE theatre) and have recently made several decisions which will impact it's future for a very long time. This is a time to grieve the direction our beloved theatre is being taken.

The Rochester Civic Theater exists, first and foremost, to present live theater. However, over the past several years, the board and former executive director have been intent on making RCT just another rental space. I want the money I donate-through my direct donations and tax dollars-to be used to support community theater. Further, without an artistic director, the theather loses its artistic vision and focus. Without focus, business and art cannot survive. I am very disappointed but this board and its actions.

I am appalled by the decisions that have been made by this board of directors. I no longer live in Rochester, but am a former season ticket holder. My husband and I also volunteered on stage. Greg is an incredibly talented director whose skills and leadership can not be replaced by contracted directors. For over 25 years Greg invested his time, effort, passion, and talent into the theatre and the volunteers who served at RCT. The board needs to be replaced with members who appreciate the arts and fully understand community theatre. Voting privileges need to be given back to members, and Greg should be offered his position back. This decision made by the board was short sighted and a huge mistake. The citizens of Rochester are the ones that really loose. The high quality theatre provided at RCT under the direction of Greg Miller was one of the things that made living in Rochester something special. The recent actions of the board put that at risk, through the decision of firing a dedicated and talented staff member and alienating your members and volunteers.

I am an RCT Lifetime Achievement Award recipient (2002), with over 50 years of involvement @ RCT, as well as a past Board member, season ticket holder, fundraiser, event and opening night reception planner. I am 100% baffled and appalled by the recent maneuverings and decisions of this current Board. These actions show a VAST underestimating of the rare talent held by Gre
g Miller to recruit and engage hundreds of volunteers and somehow make all the hours and hours of hard work FUN and WORTH the effort. Huge mistake. Huge loss to RCT.
