Spare this mans life. I know what he did was wrong but in the end it's not up to us to judge and end a mans life just because we have the power to. He's just dealing the hand of cards life dealt him and to be honest a lot of people would go crazy in the circumstance he's in but he maintains and knows that they can't hold him forever. I saw a interview with him and he said that he dreamed he saw a cake and blew out the candles and looked down on his hands just to see that they were his hands because of a tattoo that's on his wrist and saw the candles read 99 and then he woke up. Deep down he will be free. Stay up and keep believing

I believe that we all make mistakes ...and we cannot judge anybody ...especially if have never been in their shoes.....I know that if people commit a crime I acknowledge that there will be consequences, and that there are people who go on and on and murder and should be punish because some definitely demonstrate to have mental issues or are psychopaths...I don't believe Joseph Christopher Garcia has any of those issues nor us he a psychopath. He deserves at least a different type of sentence. He killed a man and got 50 years and he then was involved in an escape where there was a shooting and killed an officer...he didn't kill that officer...yet he was some what involved...so now he get death penalty...come on ...I've read about other insane killers or insane assaults to people and have not gotten a death penalty...why is he getting a death penalty.? I sign for him to get a trial...and his sentence be changed.

He should be put to death for killing two innocent victims. He is where he belongs. But if you ask me Texas should change the death penalty by killing a person in the same way he did to another person. Listen everyone says he should be in prison but not giving the death penalty but I disagree he took two life's so he is where he belongs , the life he has is that he is breathing but if you look is his victims alive . He does have a life in prison where we pay for food and clothes for him. They should put under the jail. This is bs- no one mention his victim or there families including the victims kids. The cop definitely did not deserve what he got from these lowlife individuals in which they are . Rot in hell ...

I know the all about the Texas Seven from articles, news, books, watching the documentary Breakout - The Texas Seven, and Werner Herzog's On Death Row Conversations with Mr. Garcia and Mr. Rivas. I despise the death penalty it doesn't deter anything. If it did then Texas and the other states which have this penalty would have a drastic decline of homicides. This is not the case. I just finished reading Joseph's book "A Cry in the Wilderness". I truly don't believe this man should be sentenced to death. The state of Texas should commute his sentence. This is just vengeance on their part. I saw an old news clip the other day of Mr. Rivas' execution. The only family who witnessed it were there for Rivas. Officer Hawkins' father said he does not think about any of those involved in his son's death and didn't attend. There were no representatives for the Hawkins family or his widow. His widow didn't attend because she said there was no closure after the last execution she had attended. Only the prosecutor and law enforcement were present for Officer Hawkins. A spokesman for the police made a statement after the execution saying they will see this (the executions) through to the end. This speaks volumes of revenge loud and clear. My thoughts and prayers go out to Joseph and his family.

It seems punishment under US law (Texas in particular) isn't meant to be fair and efficient. A fair sentence would be COMMENSURATE to the crime - an unfair sentence would give rise to retaliation & resentment. An efficient sentence would deliver more than just the punishment itself - it would at minimum be REHABILITATIVE to convicted offenders & DETERRENT to prospective offenders. Texas 7 escaped from prison & committed further crimes, meaning they weren't rehabilitated - the system had failed them, despite being incarcerated for many years. It also seems a lot of others in custody are repeat offenders with previous jail terms, meaning previous incarceration wasn't rehabilitative to them either. If capital punishment was effective, capital crimes would be a thing of the past, with the fear of being killed being a powerful deterrent. However, this doesn't seem to be the case as capital murders are committed almost daily, with the offenders knowing the capital nature of the crimes at the time of committing them. So, it seems all that is achieved through capital punishment is REVENGE and nothing else.

He made mistakes in his youth, like everybody else. He's not necessarily evil. We all learn from past mistakes & become better people. All thats needed is a 2nd chance.
Let the God judge him
He didn't deserve that
