If Guelph-Eramosa Township wants to diversify into industries other than agriculture, at the time of the next election, candidates should state their support for an industrial park and zone the park for future industrial development. Until then, this one-off application should be denied.

Dan is correct when he comments that this should be of concern to everyone in Wellington Couty. This proposal typifies the political and business philosophy of the Wellington County and municipalities governing bodies- keep building until we run out of space to build anymore. We are told this is all progress (“healthy growth” as Linton likes to phrase it) and this unprecedented progress (at one point the 3rd fastest growing area in Canada) is provincially mandated. However, progress is considered positive- definition- “gradual betterment”. There is nothing gradual or better about what has happened to Wellington County The situation more correctly defined as overdevelopment- “an amount of development (for example the quantity of buildings or intensity of use) that is excessive in terms of demands on infrastructure and services, or impact on local amenity and character”. Overdevelopment engenders a vicious circle: more traffic promotes gas consumption and increases noise and exhaust emissions, traffic congestion and the need to build even more roads. This in turn facilitates residential property development. It promotes increased energy consumption for heating, air conditioning, and lighting in additional buildings, resulting in additional greenhouse gas emissions. It promotes greater use of materials for the upkeep of ever growing numbers of buildings and infrastructure elements, and the consequent increase in environmental pollution. It results in farmland loss, which is of course a crucial resource for the food supply, forage, energy crops and renewable resources. Rural residents get endangered water supply, urbanization of rural roadways and track side seats to daily urban commuter races with all the associated noise, pollution and impact on quality of life. All in the name of of "progress". Sorry- healthy growth.

This rezoning is wrong for all the right reasons! Please do not allow it to happen.

it is unacceptable to put a factory in an area surrounded by family homes and prime agricultural land.

Please consider the effect this development would have on farmland & water.

We definitely need to save our farmland. This is were our food comes from.

Hi there - couple items as I learned about this, which are concerning. Rezoning farmland greatly impacts our food security and food scarcity is only going to get worse...we need to keep what local prime farm land we can and grow in other areas (which there are plentiful). As for the water table, as a long-time Guelph resident I understand the source of our water supply and any potential impacts on the Aberfoyle spring grounds, reservoir and water system should be greatly studied and reviewed for environmental impact...not only Guelph but the system feeds down the grand river. The environmental impact in general here with this proposal appears to very high, i hope there are studies at all levels of government.

This factory will ruin our healthy, comfortable, and quiet country life style! What makes Minus Forty think they can just barge in people's neighborhoods and take over our lifestyle on Jones Baseline when there are so much more "industrial property" available outside of Guelph and area which can probably handle their industry better than Jones Baseline?? Please, please re evaluate!!!

In the times we are in - dangerous climate change, massive losses of biodiversity, increasingly insecure food supplies, threatened water shortages, pressing economic and other demands for land use intensification, .. .. .. .. .. this is the last thing any responsible local government should be contemplating! This large scale industrial development should be in an urban setting, in dedicated and fully services industrial land. No excuse relating to needed tax capture and other short term expediencies should be entertained, yet alone tolerated in such a blatant misuse of scarce natural assets.

This is a ridiculous location for such a massive industrial installation. The City of Guelph does have an industrial park for industries such as this.

Stop planning rezone 5063 Jones Baseline to riral industrual!

The Hanlon Industrial Park is a much more suitable location for such a facility. And it has direct access to the Hanlon Expressway and 401.

Yes, I have emailed them twice and have not received a reply. We were counting on their support.

Our environment and especially our water need to be protected. This property is already zoned Agriculture and Environment Protected for a reason. Rezoning should not even be up for a debate.
