The parole board has granted release for John Kurtis Baker. My legal team is currently finalizing the paperwork required for his transition out of the facility. I am grateful for the sustained attention directed toward the procedural flaws in this case.
John Kurtis Baker is currently serving a 25 year prison sentence, for 1st degree murder. The murder took place when John Kurtis was 19. He had no prior criminal record, and was a straight A student. One night John Kurtis and his girlfriend were walking home to the apartment he shared with his father. On the way, John Kurtis saw his father being beaten by a man. John Kurtis is a small boy, and knew that there wasnt too much he could do to help, so he pulled out his knife that he kept for protection. John Kurtis had no intention of using the knife, he just wanted to scare the man away so he would stop beating his father. There was a struggle, and John Kurtis ended up stabbing the man, causing him to die. Please sign this petition if you feel that this sentence of 25 years is too harsh. I do not feel that John Kurtis committed 1st degree murder, as he did not intend to kill anyone, he was just trying to save his dad. I would do the same thing, as I'm sure many others would. Please help give this young man back his freedom, he is not a danger to anyone!!!
The reach of this petition has captured the attention of legal advocates who are now reviewing the trial transcripts. I have a meeting confirmed with local counsel to discuss filing a formal motion for sentence reconsideration.

First of all let's get some facts straight. He was not convicted of 1st degree murder but rather 2nd degree murder. He did not stab the victim because he was attacking his father. There may have been a verbal disagreement but the victim wasn't even close enough to touch the father. He didn't just "end up stabbing the man" he stabbed him over 14 times once in the top of the skull. The victim and John Kurtis Baker were roughly the same size he didn't use the knife because he was smaller he used it because he intended to kill the victim. Him and the girlfriend waited for the victim for some time it was not a spur of the moment attack. And as far as "free John Kurtis" he will be out on parole soon. Hopefully prison has taught him something

25 years for defending your own father is insane. he was 19 and scared. anyone in that spot would have done the same thing. john deserves a second chance at life.
