The college and the authorities need to hold this girl's attacker responsible. Not doing so shows that the college permits assault, and doesn't believethere should be consequence for injustice.

I believe that an issue as severe as this deserves a much closer inquiry than what it has recieved. I fear for the safety of my friends knowing that JAC has attempted to reintegrate a potential rapist into their school, despite what punishments or restrictions he has already recieved.

My daughter will start here in the fall and I'd like to feel like she is safe. Or at tge very least taken seriously if something should happen.

It is absolutely gut-wrenching and appalling that the same society which conditions its young women to be friendly, to be compliant, to not make waves, will then use a woman's 'friendliness' against her, and call it consent.
As a faculty member at John Abbott, I am ill at the treatment of this case. The college has released a statement calling such incidents "rare". Sexual harassment is not rare. Reports are rare, and this is why. The college must apply pressure to reopen this case, and in the meantime conduct its own investigation, through which the measures exist to continue the suspension of the assailant. The college must prioritize justice and safety above its own image. To minimize these incidents is to propagate these incidents.
To the victim, please know that I and every other teacher I have reached out to believes you, cares about you, and wants to fight for your safety and well-being.
To the administration: we can do more than this. Do not sit in tacit approval of the treatment of this case. Make education on consent a priority. Make justice a priority. Make protection a priority. Help us build safe spaces. It is easy to want to dismiss incidents as isolated in order to maintain a positive self-image. It is much harder, but so important, to shine light on the dark places.

At anytime a no means no. Police should reopen this and stop this from happening again.

No one person should ever at any point have any sense of automatic entitlement over the affections and sexual intimacy of another. One must at all times earn the privilege through the building of trust, respect and dignity. My thoughts are with the girl in question and all survivors!

As a former JAC student, I cannot imagine how this girl feels. John Abbott needs to take these matters seriously, and the police should give it a proper investigation.

The current system does not support victims of sexual assault in this country. This is despicable. That a case should be thrown out because an officer thought a victim 'looked like she enjoyed it' is callous, ridiculous, and vile. If you have any respect for yourself as an institution, ensure the safety of your students and investigate and punish perpetrators of violence against women.

It is outrageous that we have to sign a petition in order for this poor girl to get the justice she deserves. One should never be afraid to come forward about being sexually assaulted. It doesn't matter if it was a friend, if she didn't want to do anything with him that's her choice. My ex didn't respect me enough to take "no" for an answer and I was too scared to do anything about it...that's the kind of world we live in now. It's absolutely disgusting. So let's make sure this corageous girl gets the justice she deserves. She was strong enough to speak up, let's give back her voice.
