John Abbott College: Investigate Campus Sexual Assault

It is remarkable to me that the police can be so dismissive of this case, first they believed there was something to pursue and then not. What happened that changed their minds so drastically? Certainly there are protocols in place to support the victim, and yet these procedures weren't followed. On what basis did the police decide not to further investigate. I certainly hope it didn't have anything to do with the CCTV footage of her speaking with the boy in question, or the fact that she was getting treatment for a mood disorder. Neither of these factors should play into the case. Victims of sexual assault must be encouraged to speak up, how can others feel supported when the police act in this irrational way?

Enough of this crap. I stand with you.

Even if you are friendly with a person it does not give them the right to hurt you....This boy needs help and to pay for his actions and the Victim needs our support. Don't let this person get you down he has no rights to that.

People who should be helping a victim, not being obstructive.

Sometimes the Law misses by a long shot. There can be no more misses - or excuses - regarding sexual assault.

That coward of a man deserves to go to jail and be punished for what he did!!! The victim deserves justice!!

I don't understand why being amicable with someone would mean that that person isn't capable of assault. Many cases of sexual violence involve a trusted individual taking advantage. Would you tell a child that she was being too friendly with that pedophile? It's a rather flawed reason to dismiss a case.

This is repulsive and disgusting! This is not right and the authorities should be questioned upon. Make things right, fight for the girl thats did not deserve such a crime to be put upon her in an area that is supposed to be considered a place of learning

As a former JAC student I am saddened and disappointed by the lack of action taken by the school. As a citizen of the wet island I feel let down by the police. Please reconsider the situation and take appropriate action to get justice for the victim of this horrendous crime and to prevent future victims.

It's fine and dandy for the college to state that they have a sexual assault policy but it must be implemented. That's what it means to have a policy!

Get him and put him in jail. We don't want rapists in our cegeps. We want to feel safe studying, which is a basic right to everyone.

Since when is having a conversation with someone an agreement to be sexually, or any other way, assaulted? An investigation of the charges is called for by both the school and the police.

This is beyond bad policing. How dare you victimize a woman who has been raped! You all are pure evil and EVERYTHING that is wrong with humanity. Shameful!

She deserves to feel free again and to not be threaten/ scared to continue with her education. Actions should be made immediately. Personally i find it ridiculous that you can be expelled for failing 3 concentration courses except a guy who sexually assaults a woman isn't expelled? There's a lot that doesn't make sense and this should definitely be dealt with.

Consent is key- the word yes is key. Friendliness is nothing.

Perpetrators always somehow never suffer the consequences of their actions and it just isn't fair for the survivor.
