Joe was a great man and a good friend. When I first met him in 1980 he had a small office on 42nd St & Broadway, which was piled high with photos and other memorabilia, like his office at 43rd & 8th, truly Joe's Memory Lane.

I strongly urge CB4 to co-name West 43rd "Joe Franklin's Memory Lane." Joe was a true legend, a New York fixture who knew everyone in every aspect of showbiz. This would be a fitting tribute to a pioneer I was glad to call a friend.

Joe Franklin has a definitive place in New York City's rich and diverse history. With unmatched personality, humor and charm, Joe Franklin's Memory Lane on west 43rd st. (8th to 10th ave) should leave a lasting impression in the hearts and minds of all those who knew him. My first introduction to Joe was when I performed stand-up comedy at one of his clubs. He approached me and said "I came here to see someone else but I thought you were much funnier." He then proceeded to take a nap.

Joe was unique in the annals of show business. From the very beginning, he celebrated the past, present, AND future AND gave voice to some that would not have had a voice otherwise. Joe Franklin started TV and exposed so many of a great counted celebrities to the world., 43rd Street is just a number , make it memorable. he was the pioneers nostalgia and promotion.

Joe Franklin was the quintessential New Yorker. With his trailblazing in establishing the talk show format in the early days of live television, Mr. Franklin left a mark on television that will live on forever, as should his memory. To many of us fortunate enough to have grown up watching Mr. Franklin, you realize how much he was part of New York with his unique insights into show business and the entertainment industry that eminated from New York in live theater, television, and other performances. That his office and headquarters on West 43rd Street was a mecca for those he knew in and out of show business, a beacon of light and happiness for New Yorkers, Mr. Franklin deserves to be remembered and honored by having West 43rd St. (8th Ave. - 10th Ave) co-named in his honor.
