If no guns or materials capable of making a bomb was not in Jimmy Gaines car or home, the charges should be dismissed as just frustration at being held up from registering for classes on the final day of registration.

A frustration does not equal a real threat! They should have sent a couple of officers to question the guy.... and that may have been the end of the story!

Everyone makes mistakes - everyone has or will say something 'stupid' and regret it, but 3 years of corporal punishment seems completely unnecessary given the situation.

It's outrageous what the "law" is trying to do to this poor guy. The irony is sickening. While liars and thieves roam free, we spend time and resources trying to get 3 yr convictions on GOOD UPSTANDING AMERICAN CITIZENS WHO NEVER COMITTED A CRIME IN THWIR LIVES?!?! Please drop all the charges!

People DO know there was never any chance he'd get the full 3 years, right? He snagged one of the top defense lawyers in town--he's almost guaranteed to never spend another minute in jail. Watch Davis get 'em to let it all go.

This is an opportunity for common sense to prevail rather than reactive "example-making" of an innocent (though blundering) individual.

the negative comments posted on this stand for individual freedom are signs of an oncoming epidemic of a weak liberal sycophantic new order. be afraid.

When my husband called me on campus during lockdown, I told him about the threat and he laughed. He instinctual knew that it was a joke, and that I was in no real danger even though he didn't know Gaines at all. Don't we all say things that we regret.

counseling and six months probation would help him realize there are many disturbed individual that can put other people in danger.

I'm 92 years old and believe that common sense should be used to deal with all mistakes especially since he recognized is joking was a mistake and immediately apologized

It is our prayer that the good sense of the Hamilton County justice system will prevail and that Jimmy can move on from this most unfortunate ordeal.
