Ich bin der Meinung, dass die geplanten Änderungen des Berliner Senats hinsichtlich Zusammensetzung und Aufgaben des Erziehungsdirektoriums (ED) nicht im Interesse dieser einzigartigen deutsch-amerikanischen Gemeinschaftsschule, der John-F.-Kennedy-Schule, sind. Ich meine, dass das ED folgende Aufgaben weiterhin wahrnehmen muss: - Bestimmung des JFK-Curriculums, - Mitwirkung bei der Entscheidung der Anstellung bzw. Weiterbeschäftigung qualifizierter US-Lehrer, - Mitwirkung bei den Maßnahmen für die Akkreditierung der Schule (insbesondere die der New England Association of Schools and Colleges), - Bestimmung der Aufnahmekriterien für Schüler, insbesondere amerikanischer Kinder, - Mitsprache durch Erhalt der Stimmrechte der Elternvertreter in offenen und geschlossenen Sitzungen (in geschlossenen Sitzungen werden Personalentscheidungen getroffen). Ich bin davon überzeugt, dass dies für den Charakter und die Identität der Schule von wesentlicher Bedeutung ist. Ich bin daher gegen die vom Berliner Senat geplanten Gesetzesänderungen in Bezug auf die Zusammensetzung, Aufgaben und Rechte des ED. ----------------------------------------------------------------- I believe that the newly proposed Berliner Senat laws concerning the restructuring of the Educational Directorate (ED), its duties and design, are not in the best interest of our unique and revered school, the John F. Kennedy School. I believe the ED must have the right to determine aspects of the JFKS curriculum that are relevant to its mission statement as a bicultural, bilingual educational institution (e.g., AP courses, American curriculum), must have legal rights to oversee the hiring of qualified American teachers, must have the ability to implement and monitor the accreditation process (on the US side by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, NEASC), must retain the right to determine admission criteria and, further, must include parent representatives with voting rights in both open and closed sessions. I believe this is essential to the school’s character and identity. I reject the newly proposed laws by the Berliner Senat in reference to the proposed changes to the structure and responsibilities of the ED.
