Jeff Spielman Memorial Gymnasium- H.M.S.H. Current Students
To current (2020-2021) Hancock Middle-Senior High school students,
We are sure that you have seen the community petition to name the H.M.S.H. basketball gymnasium after Coach Spielman. In order for this to happen, we need 75% (or more) of the current student body to sign this petition. Please list your name and then your grade level (in the messages) for the 2020-2021 school year.
On Monday, June 22, 2020, our community lost a beacon. Coach Jeff Spielman began his teaching career in 1970 as our elementary P.E. teacher. By the time he retired in 2012, he had left a path that countless students and athletes had followed. Coach Spielman's desire for his students to always give their best guided his teaching, whether in his classroom, on a track, a football field, or a basketball court. During his notable coaching career, he accrued the records for the best record for a season (at 21 wins), the most wins (at over 250), the most playoff victories, and the most titles. Coach Spielman's distinguished accomplishments culminated with an induction to the Washington County Sports Hall of Fame in 2016. Coach Spielman was a mentor to many over the years, and we remember him for his compassion, motivation, and dedication.
To honor the legacy of Coach Jeff Spielman, we ask that you support our petition to Washington County Public School to rename the Hancock Middle-Senior High School basketball gymnasium, the Jeff Spielman Memorial Gymnasium.
