Hello All.
Some of you may have noticed a post on the official Canterbury Hall facebook page, requesting for a speaker for the end of year party. I kindly offered my professional DJ speaker to the JCR, making sure I demonstrated how it should be used and with the promise that someone would always be watching it.
When I got it back, it was no longer working. I attempted to get it fixed, but to no avail.
Since I am aware that there is still an unspent JCR budget available, I contacted them to ask for a replacement to come out of the budget surplus, stating that I would be happy to get a USED one for under 100 pounds.
The JCR was helpful and they contacted a senior member who is refusing to authorise the replacement, citing the following reasons.
* The JCR cannot cover damages to personal property
* Bili has to take it up with the individuals she gave the speaker to, as it's not a Canterbury hall issue.
My response is that, If the JCR had rented the speaker from an external source, they would be liable for any damages caused during its use, therefore the same should apply in this case. This is a piece of equipment that I often use for professional purposes, which they borrowed and the item was damaged during use, despite me giving a demonstration as to how it must be used.
Secondly, i did NOT lend the speaker out to individuals. I responded to a post on the OFFICIAL Canterbury Hall page , stating that the JCR needed to borrow a speaker for the end of year party. I have records of communications to that effect, and the end of year party cannot be divorced from Canterbury for their convenience. This was a CANTERBURY HALL party organised by the JCR for CANTERBURY HALL residents.
I just need my speaker replaced, and I believe I am being reasonable by asking for a USED replacement. The JCR money has been squandered on things like ice cream, so I do not understand why they should refuse replacing my speaker when it was damaged during their use, and there IS money available for the replacement.
Please support me by signing the petition.
Thanks
Bili Sule
The scale of this response confirms the need to escalate our formal request to the student union administration. I am currently finalizing a briefing document to present alongside these signatures during next week's scheduled meeting with the treasurer.

The JCR are being cheap. If they had rented a unit it would be covered so this is no different. Just replace it and move on.

This is ridiculous. If they borrowed it for an official event they should be responsible for fixing it. Not fair that you lose out because you tried to help the hall out.

Total joke. You help them out and they break your gear then act like it is not their problem. Pay up JCR.
