I don't think school should start before Labor Day and it should be out before Memorial Day. There was nothing wrong with that back in the day. Kids and family deserve family time. My kids come home with so much homework plus there after school sports there is no time in the week for family stuff. Yeah we have the weekends but my husband works weekends. Summer it's the only time we get to have full on family time. We don't get enough time to do all the things we want in the short of time. I know the board can not control how many days are required and that is a state mandatory. So we need to start petitioning the state to change the required days they must have.I for one do not want to have my kids in school in June.

I am very active in my children's academic career and serve on many boards including volunteering. However I do believe we are starting way too early in the year .

Too early!! Already our students norrmally miss KY Fair & have shorter & shorter summers!! If this is educationally necessary, go to year round school in all of JCPS!! Oh and let's let our Teachets teach! Paperwork can be completed by Teacher's Aides!!!

School should not start back until the end of August the kids miss out on the fair and their summer vacation it's not fair . We as adults had our summer vacation in school don't rob these kids of theirs ! Period!!

School should start the day after Labor Day, like when we were kids. As a parent I want to take my kids on summer vacation, I have to schedule it at the beginning of the year and try and schedule it around the 30 other parents in my office. Well, I haven't had one with my kids because those I can't get any time off until August. Fix this, family is supposed to be important.

if we used the money we spend on gas for bussing students everywhere and put it towards our teachers and schools our education would improve and we wouldn't need to start school as early as we do. School shouldn't start till after Labor Day.

There are days during the school year where nothing is being done in school now. Many kids even miss the last few days. There are too many days off throughout the year now - Oaks for example - why is that a valid day for no school? How can other schools, whether private or in other counties, start later and end earlier but JCPS can't do the same? Not just for the students or parents but for the teachers to plan for the year and prepare for the students that are coming in.

Please, make all the inservice days during the summer. We need to start school later, and let the children go to school with uninterrupted days in the school year. This letting them have numerous days off constantly leading up to Dec is ridiculous

This is just ridiculous to start that early.. My family and I take our vacation around that time because of the price difference from June and July to August.

kids are now having their summers cut in half. If you don't want kids to be burned out and hate school and do poorly in school they need to have their summer break. I would rather than be in school when the weather is as nice and they can't do more things outside.
