August 10 is too early. Late August is good. However, we need to realize that the number of days kids must be in school is determined by the state, not JCPS. June and July are acceptable months for vacation. Who still has spending money left in August anyway? Want a vacation, take it in June. It's less hot in June anyway. And for people who say 7:40 is too early for middle and high? Think of it this way...the buses that transport them also transport elementary kids. If M and H start later, the E will have to start later. Some of those kids don't get home until almost 6:00. How would you like kindergarteners walking home from the bus stop at 8:00 at night?

Kids, teachers and parents need the summer to recuperate and regenerate, as well as to enjoy activities in the real world. Most kids do not thrive in a locked down classroom environment...when are schools going to figure that out. I'm a former teacher by the way.

august is too early. I don't know why kids can't start after Labor Day and get out at the end of May. I think that is a more appropriate calendar. Kids aren't even kids anymore. Let them have a childhood and enjoy the summer.

I barely have time to my kids as it is. We've taken Family out of everything and all that seems to matter is money. I am a parent who adores her kids and love having time together. I think ALL parents need to rally together and not send OUR kids to school until after Labor Day the way it was when we were kids!!! Stop putting our kids as a $ sign!!
