Next STEPP provides a much needed service to the community and has done so with integrity for more than 20 years. They deserve funding and an apology for the gross mischaracterization of the program by the seven speakers and certain Council members as well as the silence of other members.

SP council must learn to do its homework. Nest Stepp has been serving the Southside for almost 30 years. Unbelievable that the council would bring out-of-town professional hit women from strictly political entities. They probably could not find the center. They have no heart or compassion for the community - only a political agenda. This is David and Goliath ..... don't count David out. The council should deal in justice and proven community service and not be influenced by paid political pros.

Next Step has served the Pinellas County community (not just African Americans) with dignity, respect and love for many years. I'm not sure I understand the reluctance of the council sworn to serve the entire community. Be careful to not give the appearance of favoritism as election time is coming again. No threat intended just a reminder that we expect you to honor your promise (s).

Care for impoverished families is desperately needed. Many women have no idea how to care for themselves or their children. Next Step serves that need.

As a community advocate and 1st VP of the St. Petetsburg NAACP, I am requesting needed funding for services that disproportionately affect African American women. In too many cases, unplanned pregnancies can lead to the creation and continuation of the cycle of poverty and accompanying risk factors.
I look forward to the expansion of Next Step services with the use of CRA dollars. This funding would allow clients to receive comprehensive family support services in a community where services are desperately needed and with greater accessibility.
I am thanking you as City Council members for doing the right thing and for the right community.
Your best leadership guided with a moral compass is much appreciated in regards to this funding request.
