It’s mind boggling that there still is no Ivy League tournament. I played in the mid to late 1970’s and believe we should be much further along. It would be a uniquely level playing field and players would feel a competitive enthusiasm that would fill an important void.

Yes, as a parent of a 2018 Cornell field hockey senior (who has never yet had the opportunity to participate in an Ivy League tournament) .... I absolutely and unequivocally support this “new” initiative to have an annual Ivy League field hockey tournament to determine the league champion instead of league play/standings alone.
I have always thought it to be very unfair to simply have the league champion determined by league play alone for many reasons. A loss in early league play often dashed the season’s hope of NCAA Div 1 championship tournament play.
It is now my understanding that any change to the current field hockey format to determine the league champion - would require unanimous approval by all Ivy League field hockey teams/coaches and final approval of the Ivy League board. And in the past, that Princeton remained the sole roadblock to changing the existing format. Not sure if that is actually true - but certainly concerning insofar as the recent ‘dynasty’ of Princeton Ivy League field hockey over the past 10 seasons or so. I believe that Ivy League Field Hockey parity with more competitive games is in the best long term health and interests of the Ivy league including all players (present, future and alumni) as well as for coaches and family/fans.
Our son Matthew is currently a Penn sophomore who fortunately this week will be competing in his second consecutive Ivy League lacrosse tournament as the 4th seed to determine the annual Ivy League champion - as well as potential seeds to the NCAA Div 1 championship. Something for his team to really play for despite three earlier losses in Ivy League play. He is lucky but they dream and work hard for an Ivy League championship to gain an NCAA Tournament berth - right to the end of their season....extended by the Ivy League Tournament.
This 2018 year the Ivy lacrosse tournament is being hosted for the first time at a neutral site (instead of the league play champion) on Friday, May 4 (SF’s) and Sunda

Every other conference does this in just about every other sport. This also gives added "body of work" for consideration by the NCAA for potential NCAA at Large Bids (which the Ivy League almost never gets). Ivy League Field Hockey is more competitive now than ever, and is more deserving of NCAA At large bids. The one recently given to Princeton two year ago resulted in their Final Four appearance.
