Dear Athletes, We, your athletes representatives, would like to draw your attention to a resolution that is to be proposed at this years ITU Congress (held on the Gold Coast on the 10th September) by several European national federations; -------------------------- Resolution 2: Uniform Rules Proposal from France, Spain, Germany, Austria, Great Britain, Switzerland, Italy, Finland, Luxembourg, Poland, Bulgaria, Belgium, Portugal and Netherlands and supported by ETU Congress Whereas the new Dextro Energy ITU World Championship Series is raising the level of elite triathlon and the awareness of our sport around the world, and we must endeavour to present a common national identity for the benefit of broadcasters and spectators alike, and Whereas the ITU Uniform Rules as well as the race entries are based on the principal that to compete in ITU events, athletes must be in good standing with their National Federations (NF), and it is the NF that manages the relationship with their athletes and submits the entry to the ITU entry system, Be it resolved that the ITU Uniform Rules are addressed to the NF and clearly state that the uniform belongs to the NF exclusively. Be it further resolved that while the NF could permit their athletes to wear his/her own sponsors' logos, all athletes (in Youth, Junior, U23 and Elite category) must wear the same uniform in colour and style for the following types of races: - ITU World Championship Series (including the Grand Final) - ITU Continental Championships. Furthermore be it resolved that the ITU Uniform Rules, and the exclusivity outlined above, extend to the presentation clothing worn by the athlete on the victory podium. --------------------- We believe that if this resolution is adopted as it stands the ambiguous language and multiple sub-points could be used to severely restrict athletes' commercial and sponsorship potential. We are currently composing an alternative resolution (in the event that it is impossible to get this resolution removed from the Congress schedule) but for this to be adopted we very much need each of you to talk to your federations and explain why they need to support the athletes' resolution. Also we ask you to sign this petition to the Congress and show them that you all feel strongly that the resolution 2 proposed by certain European NFs should not be adopted. By signing this petition you are showing your support AGAINST Resolution 2 up for vote at the ITU Congress 2009. Thank you for your time and support in this matter that will surely effect us all if we don't react quickly. Best wishes, The Athletes' Committee (Jess Harrison, Kris Gemmel, Jarrod Shoemaker, Sarah Groff, Laurent Vidal, Henrik de Villier)
