We have learned that there are plans to eliminate on of the second grade classrooms for the 2008-2009 school year at Island Avenue. This will keep class sizes hovering at 23 instead of reducing class size to approximately 17. We, the undersigned call on the Madison School Board and the Superintendent to retain all four second grade classrooms at Island Avenue School for the 2008-2009 school year. Research supports that classes of 17 and smaller in the early elementary years.
