Alcohol was used throughout American history to keep us intoxicated while genocide was perpetrated on our people. Handsome Lake approached President Thomas Jefferson and complained that traders needed to exchange something other than alcohol for their coveted beaver pelts. We all need to heal from such a violently sordid past, and this product will only perpetuate more hatred in an already sickened world.

As someone who was educated on Haudenosaunee territory and had many generous, brilliant Haudenosaunee teachers, I am appalled that Community Beer Works would make such a careless decision. No doubt, the original Iroquois beer was a celebration of the forced removal of Seneca people from Buffalo Creek in order to make way for the grain elevators that led to Buffalo's boom. This is shameful history that must be remembered, but never celebrated. Ditch this tacky and insulting brand now!

Onondaga Nation, Beaver Clan. The use of Native images, iconography, and references for white/non-native corporate branding and marketing is clearly racist. No other population in the US is subject to this level of disrespect. You can expect our resistance to this exploitation and erasure to be relentless. In case you didn't notice, it's the twenty first century. This must stop.
